Thanks for providing AntiX… I recently resurrected a 13-year old 512MB Toshiba which had no HDD… which is of course not an obstacle for a light Linux Distro. AntiX saved it, as even with a “new” HDD, its still an old IDE bus and it struggled even with LXDE. But AntiX has worked out real good on several configurations done from Live USB

I just finished a setup based on AntiX Core, adding X, i3WM, and some basics to run in it. Working pretty good. Had to use the ALT key for i3 as no Windows Key (yeah, it is that old). For some reason i3 ignores all “SHIFT” mod key combinations although they are defined correctly in i3/config, It may be a hardware thing – i do not want to create a different distro to check that. I just changed them to Ctrl-Alt for the ones I need,

After all this is one giant experiment, as I plan to primarily use this machine as a test-bed for stuff.

But the experience has made me a loyal AntiX user already. I love to tinker around and AntiX is proving a great platform for that.

Thanks for sharing. I agree; I have enjoyed using antiX myself from the earliest releases, and I’ve found antiX to be a great test bed. I’ve also been able to set up extremely stable antiX distributions, wild and crazy, highly customized systems, and all different kinds of variations. That’s what I especially appreciate. Recently I’ve used my antiX distribution in a very stable configuration, and in that form, it is extremely easy to maintain and use, particularly for someone who has experimented with it as long as I have! 😉

Good to see those old machines coming back to life, isn’t it. 🙂

I used to use #!, (Crunchbang), until it was not going to be continued, & that is when I first came to AntiX, been here ever since.

          Linux (& BSD) since 1999

Well here is an update on AntiX on “Old Tosh”… AntiX has now taken its rightful place as the primary OS neatly installed on the “new” IDE HDD I managed to find for it, I was going to install from CORE, but for some reason I could never get the CLI-installer to run, it would return CP; Error…. no space on Device. Didn’t feel like spending a lot of time on that as the GUI-launched installer works fine and the extra bells and whistles may come in handy.

Next part of the experiment : spin this up into a web server. Probably not for any serious production use (not sure that this machine can run 24/7… judging from the noises the fan makes sometimes), but just for practice in a field I am just getting into.

Thanks again to y’all for making AntiX.
