I dont know if am doing something wrong. i used antix-snapshot gui utility to create iso image of my installed system, the process completed without errors. I also used live-usb-maker to create bootable usb from the iso also without error but when i tried booting up the iso; i was greeted with the error “cannot find /antix/linuxfs”. the only options is to either type “p” to shutdown or “r” to reboot.

I have also used iso-snapshot and refractasnapshot packages with the same outcome. I need to have a backup of my system to avoid complete reinstall. I need help Please.

Is your machine set to boot USB before HDD(?) – could be grub looking on the wrong disk/partition.

        Linux (& BSD) since 1999

Did you already try if the stick boots on other hardware ?
Did you try other usb-ports and might also other usb-sticks ?

my System boots the hard disk straight away. To boot from USB you have to select it from a menu via hardware button.

Yes, I checked the other usb ports same result. I did not try other systems because I have only one. Maybe I will check it out when I get to the office later in the day.

This will happen if your machine is not reporting the usb stick as a usb device. A picture of the screen when you get the error message may tell us. A quick fix to try is to use the “from=all” cheat. Normally we only look on optical devices (cds, dvds) and usb devices for the live-usb. Using “from=all” tells the system to also look on internal drives. If your machine is incorrectly reporting the usb drive as non-usb and non-removable then this should get the live-usb to boot anyway.

If that fails then try the “failsafe” boot option which implies “from=all” but will also load all the modules available in the initrd in case there is a problem with the automatic hardware detection.

Some usb-sticks such as the SanDisk Ultra Fit can confuse the Linux kernel on some machines. If “from=all” doesn’t help then you could try unplugging and replugging the live-usb when we are looking for the linuxfs file.
