      Dear PPC,

      Here are the test conditions with my desktop on my desk (a table to put all the tax documents !)

      My table;
      length 2 meters
      ————————————————————
      | |
      width | SCREEN 1 SCREEN 2 | width
      1 meter| | | 1 meter
      | | |
      | | distance between Wallon and |
      | | the screens = 75 cm |

      —————————-|——————————-
      WALLON (I am here)

      In my case, the best settings for reading the comments in the FT10 menu without difficulty are
      – font size 14,
      – dark mode off,
      – height of the taskbar at the bottom of the screen 42.

      The font for date, time, cpu and ram should be increased.
      The Conky font size is easier to read. In my case, I would keep the Conky and remove the date, time, cpu and ram from the taskbar as they are too small.
      It doesn’t matter if you can’t do it because I have enough Ram to run the programs.

      Additional note
      If I make the switch by using several times in the menu the line “FT10 – Enable FT10 or Toggle Menu templates”;
      a) I have 2 flags that appear in my taskbar,
      b) I lose all settings (dark mode disabled, taskbar height, font size).

      The flags can be removed by left-clicking on them and choosing the “Exit” option.
      For the loss of the parameters, I find it annoying to redo everything. It would be necessary to have a kind of *.config file that keeps the user’s settings.

      Kind regards,
      Wallon.

      PS : Don’t forget to click on the printscreens and go left and right to see everything.

          The drawing of my desktop does not look good on the forum. It’s better with a *.png file

            @Wallon – thanks for all the detailed info…
            Thanks to that, probably the next FT10 version (1.1) will be easily compatible with very high resolution screens:
            -I’ll make the “Fonts” script available in the “+/-” menu (with the changes I’m making, the menus should be more resilient to font size changes).
            -I’ll try to adapt the “Categories menu”- it should be easier that the “Tiled” one I’m currently working on…
            -In my tests I got the “Tiled” menu working perfectly with Fonts until the size “12”- almost what you say you need… With a bit more work, probably I’ll get it working with size “13”- but a tilled menu correctly formatted for font size “14” would not look very nice on lower resolution screens (like the ones I have available for testing)
            – Thanks to your input, I updated the size of the fonts that display the CPU and RAM info and the Clock- they should now be readable in a wider range of resolutions- and save my eye sight from tiny fonts on my highest definition screen 🙂

            If you want to test the new fonts for the clock:
            In zzzfm navigate to your home folder, then to the hidden “.config” folder (you may have to press CTRL + H to see it) and “tint2”- right click the “tint2rc” file and open it in a file editor…
            Change the values of this variables to look like this (you may experiment with bigger Font sizes):
            time1_font = Sans Bold 9
            time2_font = Sans 9

            Save the file.
            In the toolbar, use the “+/-” to toggle something (example- dark mode), so the toolbar reloads – will see the difference instantly- please tell me if you can now read the clock…

            Please note that you have a very particular setup- that should not be very common among antiX users- multi screens, with very high resolution and also you are quite far away from the screens…)

            EDIT:
            I just nailed the right Tiled menu configuration that works with every single font size (tested with sizes between 8 – 14)- with a minor visual glitch it even works with font size 15, so I guess it’s pretty future proof…

            P.

              @Wallon :
              Probably version 1.1 will be out over this week end, with much bigger fonts by default and working with the default Ubuntu font with sizes between 10-15.
              When you have the time, please test the script that allows you to also change the size of the RAM/CPU indicador, and time and date
              (download the link below, unzip it, make the script file executable by right clicking it in zzzfm, select Properties > Permitions and tick the “execute” fields…)
              Just launch the script and choose what you want to change…

              P.

                Dear PPC,

                I do not forget you.
                I’m running out of time.
                For the moment, Marcelocripe and I are working on the translations of MX Linux.
                I’ll come back to you either tomorrow or during the weekend.
                It’s really a great job. I can’t pass up such a great opportunity to work with antiX on multiple screens.
                Have you already eaten the “Bolo rei”? I would like to try this famous Portuguese cake once.

                Kind regards,
                Wallon

                  The Alpha version, 1.1 is out, available in: https://gitlab.com/antix-contribs/ft10-transformation/-/blob/main/packages/ft10-transformation_1.1-alpha1_all.deb
                  Changes:
                  -New font settings for the “Tiled” menu.
                  -Changes in menu layout, to make it more resilient to Font changes
                  -Added a new tool, to the “+/-” menu, to select fonts for the Toolbar and Menu, CPU & RAM indicator, Clock and Date. -Updated pt and br-br localization

                  @Wallon- 🙂 “Bolo rei” is a tradition here during Christmas time (and finishes in “Dia dos Reis”)- so, no moer cake until next Chritsmas time…

                  Edit: I forgot to mention this: I did not change the default fonts used in the Clock, etc, because I do quite like them on all the screens I’ve available for testing- I aim to make FT10 as easy to use out of the box as possible, for as many user cases possible, so probably I’ll use a bit bigger fonts in the CPU and RAM indicator- but using huge fonts in a the default height of the toolbar com push the second line (the info about RAM usage) off the toolbar, making it unavailable…
                  I though about inserting a “Restore defaults” button in this new Fonts script – I did not do it because it would be extra work, and users get the same result when they change the Menu Layout – you can, in fact select, from the menu, the very same menu layout you are currently running – that restores tint2 toolbar to it’s default setting, by design (that’s why you have to always change back the resolution after switching Menus- FT10 was designed to basically stick to the initial selected appearance, not to keep switching menu layouts… But, once in Tilled Menu layout, toggling the Tiles on or off does not change any other configuration (you keep any font changes you performed)

                  P.

                    Hello PPC.

                    Today I will be able to test the new package and then I will send you the results by private message. Thanks for making these changes and improvements for big screens. The FT10 is getting more and more perfect. It’s hard to imagine what can be improved beyond the FT10 localizations/translations.

                    About “Bolo rei”, “it made my mouth water…” (I don’t know how this phrase will be translated by the internet translator – laughs) they are all beautiful, I’ve never tasted this cake, but I’ve tasted some delicious breads made by Portuguese who are living here in Brazil. The only problem is that we have less and less manufacturers born in Portugal and so it becomes more difficult to taste the originals, as the copies do not have the same taste.

                    – – – – –

                    Olá PPC.

                    Hoje eu poderei testar o novo pacote e depois te envio por mensagem particular os resultados. Obrigado por fazer estas alterações e melhorias para telas grandes. O FT10 está cada vez mais perfeito. Fica difícil imaginar o que pode ser melhorado, além das localizações/traduções do FT10.

                    Sobre o “Bolo rei”, “deu água na boca…” (eu nĂŁo sei como esta frase será traduzida pelo tradutor da internet – risos) sõa todos lindos, eu nunca provei este bolo, mas já provei alguns pĂŁes deliciosos feitos por Portugueses que estĂŁo morando aqui no Brasil. O Ăşnico problema Ă© que cada vez menos temos os fabricantes nacidos em Portugal e assim fica mais difĂcil saborear os originais, pois as cĂłpias nĂŁo possuem o mesmo sabor.

                      Dear Marcelocripe,

                      For the “Bolo rei”, we need to find a real Portuguese from Portugal who could give us the best recipe.
                      In Belgium, we don’t have many Portuguese or Brazilian restaurants. You can count them on the fingers of one hand!
                      In Belgium, the 6th of January is the Epiphany (day of the Three Wise Men – Melchior, Gaspard and Balthazar).

                      Dear PPC,

                      I have just done a fresh install of FT10 version 1.1
                      You will find a printscreen just after the installation without any modification.
                      As always, click on my printscreen and go from left to right to see the details of my two screens.
                      It’s really much better with this Ubuntu Light 12 font. I can read the comments on my screen.
                      I’m going to upgrade the taskbar below to read the CPU and RAM. The font in the taskbar is too small.

                      Thanks PPC for the new menus to manage fonts. It’s much better than running command lines in a terminal. It’s a good job.

                      Kind regards,
                      Wallon

                        Dear PPC,

                        Here, I have modified this;

                        Dark mode disabled,
                        Taskbar height = 42
                        Menu font FT10 = 14
                        CPU and RAM font = 10
                        DATE font = 11

                        This is beautiful!

                        The Belgian flag appeared in the taskbar on my left screen. That’s not a problem.

                        All that’s left is to put the translations on Transifex.

                        Congratulations dear PPC.

                        PS – click on my printscreen to go from left to right to see my 2 screens.

                          @Wallon – thanks for all the tests (if not for you, probably I would not have noticed the readability problem with bigger screens). Glade you liked the end result!

                          PS- I find it strange that you use the default Windows background 🙂

                          To All: version 1.1.alpha2 is out:
                          Changes:
                          Includes, out of the box, “FT10 Clock”- a mix of 4 tiny scripts I collected and adapted: clock (with seconds and date), a very simple stopwatch, timers and Alarm (all apps, except the “timers” are localized – to pt and pt_BR for now, and I also included a funny and tiny Alarm sound, used by default by the Alarm and Timers).
                          To quick access to the new Clock app: right click the toolbar clock (I guess this is handy way to set an alarm or a timer, faster than using a smartphone)

                            Dear PPC,

                            I use this screen background to avoid problems in my family.
                            My daughter (Wallonia) tells her mother (Wallonne) that I am on antiX and that I should do something else more interesting. This creates tension and arguments.
                            When my daughter (Wallonia) sees Windows 10, she doesn’t say anything to her mum (Wallonne).

                            It’s a strategy.

                            Best regards,
                            Wallon

                              @Wallon – very sneaky 🙂 It’s always a good policy to avoid family necessary problems…
                              Hum… In your particular case I think then, changing the “Start menu” icon to one more similar to that used by Windows would be a nice strategy – Using zzzfm, navigate to your user’s home folder, then to the hidden folder “.config” then to “tint2”. Right click the file “tint2rc” and open it in geany. Search for the line “# Button 1”. The variable 2 lines below that points to the icon used in the “Start menu”, select another image, maybe something like this:
                              button_icon = /usr/share/icons/numix-square-antix/48x48/apps/windows.png
                              Save the file, refresh the toolbar by changing something with the “+/-” icon (try toggling the CPU & RAM indicator).
                              You can search on-line for any icon you want and use it. Save it to your home folder and point this variable to the file you want to use, and refresh the toolbar to see the changes

                              Also, probably Fluxbox has some window decorations that look more like the ones in Windows 11…

                              You can really make antiX look as you want (you even have a new thread about how to make it look like MacOS)

                              P.

                                Dear Wallon, this is an excellent strategy, I have to remember to use this technique in the future (lots of laughter). Thanks to PPC it is very convincing and it’s already fantastic, now it has an alarm, timer, font size and type adjustment, news, etc. Basically what’s left is to translate everything that can be translated.

Graças ao PPC vai fica muito convincente e já está fantástico, agora tem com alarme, cronômetro, ajuste do tamanho e do tipo da fonte, notícias, etc. Basicamente o que falta é traduzir tudo que puder ser traduzido.

                                  I love the projects you guys are working on, but as for me, I am an unapologetic Linux user, and have been ever since I bought my first personally owned desktop computer.
                                  For many years, I at least kept one image of some version of Microsoft product handy, but I’ve found I really do not need to do that, and since I have been retired, I DEFINITELY do not need to do it. I’ve been able to communicate with people who use different brands and types of phones and computers, and my Linux interests have also served me well when I use phone products. I am not seduced into believing that these are 100% Linux products; the ones I use have hardware and software produced by a variety of open and commercial sources; I use what I like, whether free or commercial, though when I have an opportunity to use freely available software, most of the time that is what I use and choose.

                                  Since retirement I’ve not used a lot of Microsoft or UNIX hardware/software, unless I am using public property that I do not personally own; those moments have been few since there is so much good mobile technology these days.

                                  Nope, for me, I don’t have to pretend it looks like Windows, it never is, nor does it deliberately attempt to look that way. I tend to enjoy nature scenes, like waterfalls, ocean shoreline, open fields or wood and grassy backgrounds. They might come from sites that could be used on Microsoft Windows, but one of my favorites comes from a Corbin, Kentucky waterfall called Cumberland Falls. I drive near it every time I drive to Ohio or Michigan from the South, though I’ve not stopped to site-see or camp.

                                  Anyway, the freedom of choice is what really matters here, and I am extremely grateful that each one of us has the freedom to choose the environments and appearances that we visually enjoy and the technical details that work best for each of us.
