::@dariel.elias -thanks for using FT10 and for noticing that bug. Fortunately it’s very easy to solve and I’ll take care of it in the next release.
For now, if you want to keep using light mode, on the terminal and run the command that is inside the annexed text file (copy the command from the text file and paste it to the terminal and press enter).
Please notice that this fix will change the color of the font used to display the battery percentage to black- if you change to the dark mode, then you won’t be able to see the battery indicator…After running the command, log off and log back on (or restart your computer), to see the change.

::@BobC
I think I’m very near to the version of the “Update Reminder” script that probably will end up in FT10…
https://gitlab.com/antix-contribs/ft10-transformation/-/blob/main/update-reminder2.sh
Please test it, an see what you think of it…
P.
Edit: I did a crash course on anacron, and now know how to add this script to anacron’s tab, so it’s run one time per day.
The script only displays anything if a network connection is detected.
If there are no packages to “upgrade”, and the user performed an “update” in the last 8 days, nothing will be displayed. If the user performed an “update” recently but there are “upgradable” packages, a warning will be displayed.
If the user has not performed an “update” in the last 8 days, a warning will be displayed.
I tried to create warning that fit well in FT10’s U.I.- This reply was modified 1 year, 3 months ago by PPC.

::@BobC- Only when “apt update” (in this case, via the “antiX-updater”) has to be run: when the user has not performed and “update” for over 8 days or if there are “upgradable” packages found (ex: the user performed apt update but did not upgrade one or more packages, or if since the last update, the user installed, a .deb package that has a more recent version on the repository).
This script is meant to be a gentle reminder, to new users (or absent minded users) do run antiX-updater (or update via the terminal or synaptic, etc). It does not perform. by itself any operation that requires elevated privileges, except launching antiX-updater, if the user clicks the button to “Check for updates”/”Update packages”
The way I want to run this script is via anacron – this means that, I’ll have to adapt the FT10’s activation window to include a setting like “Remember User to perform Updates”- checked by default, that, if needed, inserts the needed code in anacron’s tab (and this is somewhat complex to achieve- the script has to be launched, by anacron, from another script). If the user unchecks this option, I’ll have to use a sed command to edit that line out of anacron’s tab…
I’ll only try to do that even you think that this script is a good idea…P.

::FYI
manpages.debian.org/bullseye/anacron/anacron.8.en.html
DEBIAN-SPECIFIC CONFIGURATIONBy default, The hourly activation of anacron will not take place when the system is using battery and no AC power is connected to the computer. It is meant to reduce power usage and extend battery life, but such design might lead to unwanted results. Users may disable this feature and let anacron run regardless of power supply. Please read Debian-specific documentation in /usr/share/doc/anacron/README.Debian file for detailed instruction in how to change such behaviour.
https://sources.debian.org/src/anacron/2.3-30/debian/README.debian/
By default, anacron does not run while on battery power.
Debian has added udev rules to trigger anacron when AC power is online
and offline, but you may still want to keep anacron running when you are using battery.If you are using SysVinit, see /etc/default/anacron to change that.
# ANACRON_RUN_ON_BATTERY_POWER
#
# NOTE:
# If set to “yes”, start anacron even when on battery power. By
# default, the /etc/init.d/anacron script tries to avoid running
# anacron unless on AC power, so as to avoid running down the battery.
# (Things like the locate updatedb cause a lot of I/O.)
# Rather than trying to second-guess which events reflect having or
# not having power, we just try to run anacron every time and let it
# abort if there’s no AC. You’ll see a message on the cron syslog facility
# (typically /var/log/cron) if it does run.ANACRON_RUN_ON_BATTERY_POWER=no

::Marcelo has been asking me to do that from the start…
I didn’t know that marcelocripe had already told you that
but it’s somewhat difficult to edit the menu settings
I didn’t know it was so difficult to edit menu settings and have both in one. Even so, I thank you for all your work
your montage- such a menu would be huge and would not display correctly on lower resolution screens
The resolution I use is 1024×768, I tried to browse the internet with the resolution 800×600 and it became impossible to use the internet browser. If it fills the entire screen, it will look like Windows 8 as seen in this image.
https://img.olhardigital.com.br/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/20160111183158-860×450.jpg
What I’m working on is on a button, that will be placed on the upper left side of the Tiled menu, than , when clicked, displays the categories
I really liked this idea and I thought it would be a good way to combine the two.
Thanks

::@Skidoo- thanks for the heads up! FT10 launches update-reminder as a tint2 script now…
@All: FT10 version 1.3 final is out (available, for now, on gitlab)
Changes:
-fixed some bugs (battery indicator in light mode, and restore volumeicon when disabling FT10)
-includes the previous localizations in fr, it, pt, pt-bt, es and de , checked personally (in as much detail as I can).
-now the File Manager icons on the toolbar, menu and tiles try to launch zzzfm, if it’s installed in the system. If it’s not, it will launch the default file manager (usually rox-filer, but it can be zzzfm itself, spacefm or any other fm)
-now includes a script that reminds users to update, at least once a week (or every 3 hours if they are connected to the internet and have packages that need to be updated). That functionality is opted in by default (you can opt out of it by unchecking “Auto-update”, in FT10’s activation window. Please note, that, despite the description, the script does not force you to update anything, does not even do anything on-line (it just checks if your connected to the internet by pinging google’s servers). the script, update-reminder, just automatically reminds you to update once a week, if you have not done so.To do’s:
-A future version will include dozens of automatic translation that Robin is performing (Thanks for that, Robin!)
-I was unable to finish a way to use categories, even in the Tiled menu
-Perhaps add a trash can/ recycle bin to zzzfm- This reply was modified 1 year, 3 months ago by PPC.

::@All – FT10 version 1.3 will be available soon via the oficial repository- this means that, when you update the system (for example, using antiX-updater), you’ll get the this new version. To start using it, you have to re-enable FT10 from the menu or restart your session or your computer.
Edit: added a Screenshot of FT10, running in antix 19.4, showcasing the visual affects- rounded menu corners, window shadows, discrete transparency (the menu, the toolbar and window’s titles are slightly transparent, just enought users notice it, not enough to make reading the displayed information difficult).

::I’ve just installed FT10 (1.3.1) on a former xp laptop owned by old gui who was REALLY VERY HAPPY.
He couldn’t believe his eyes.
Moreover he found it very easy to work with the new DE.
So, again, chapeau to PPC!I should highlight 2 very little things to report:
1. conky doesn’t disappear, also if i click on the box “disabilita Conky, riguarda solo questa sessione”
2. in the menu where the categories are on the left, in case there are a lot of programs, I must use the mouse wheel. there is not a scrolling lateral bar. In a laptop I need to use the arrows.many thx again

::Is it possible to mark
LOAD_CONKY="false"
in ~/.desktop-session/desktop-session.conf file as part of the install script, to disable conky (for those who want it gone)?(I love conky, but since you ask in the installation process, perhaps you could offer to make it a “sticky” preference.)

Encore merciFebruary 7, 2022 at 12:44 pm #76979MemberPPC
::@madibi – I’m glad your friend liked FT10 – I also use it on a Window XP era laptop…
Now about what you noticed in the menu – I reached out to the jgmenu developer and I was able to get a fix for a bug, where the menu entries where order was not correct, if the menu was localized, but he was unable to add 2 features I requested (including a “slide bar”). But please do note that the original icewm menu also does not have a “slider”, let’s say that not having it, for now, it’s a feature by design….
If I understood correctly the conky did not go away (for the current session) when you checked the conky box on FT10’s activation window? If so, that is strange, it always works in my tests… Since I try to keep the user’s system as untouched as possible by FT10 I did not add the possibility to always turn it off- hum… Maybe I can create a menu entry to always Toogle Conky on/off (both from the current session AND also at the system’s startup)- do you folks think it would be usefull?
Also, a script to add a trash can to zzzfm is available for testing (it has it’s own forum entry)P.

::@PPC My opinion is that the 2 “problems” I highlighted in my previous post are so little that I should ignore it.
I have formulated the report only for your completeness of information.
Your job is very useful and clear.As far as the trash can is concerned, hmmmmm… i’m rather dubious to push people to use it 🙂 , in any case if my friend will ask, I’ll know where to find it.
Again many thx for your idea and the way you developed it

::Hi PPC,
thanks once more for additions and bugfixes. Feedback very positive.
Now hoping the update reminder will have some effect, for some of my users
entering upd in the terminal or pressing a toolbar button I added once a week or so
is way to hard to think of :-).Just wishing for some way to help promote both your work and antiX. Covid KO at present time.
