::Hi PPC, with regard to Maps Open street map has shown me the way for several years,
it is the project behind a lot of others some of which charge high fees for free data.
And the main application in many car Satnav systems.On antiX I use it in a browser. As far as I know there is no lightweight application
except on android, there I have all maps I need downloaded to my phone.March 16, 2022 at 5:37 pm #79208MemberPPC
::@Moddit – gnome-maps does use Open Street maps – it’s very fast, but I can’t get it to display routes using addresses, only GPS coordinates grabbed from the maps it self (not handy if you don’t know where the place you want to go is, in the first place…). I’m not sure if that problem is a feature, not a bug…

::Have you looked at http://map.project-osrm.org/?z=7¢er=50.000678%2C11.991577&hl=en&alt=0&srv=1
Demo in Browser just routed nicely.
OSRM looks a bit of work to setup but maybe worth a try. It is a very active project too.Marble looks pretty useful, just pulls in so much KDE, supposed to work with
offline maps and interface to routino for getting from a to somewhere.
That also uses OSM.Only used the phone for routes and navigation up to now,
OT but may be useful: OsmAnd installed from FDroid.
around here it shows forest paths bike trails elevation profile. Last year
was using it to navigate through some lakes while canoeing.
Finds most adresses too, much better than my Garmin device which happily sends
me in circles.
Used same app in Vietnam and England, did not get lost :-).Can take a look at gnome maps but if it is so limited for sure continue to grab
the phone.- This reply was modified 1 year, 1 month ago by ModdIt.

::@madibi – The script to enable more colours in FT10 ended up being far easier to implement that I thought. The prototype enables This: Dark Mode, Blue, Grey (more colours are very, very easy to add). The downside is that I’ll have to localize the colours options (more extra work).
You can copy and paste the script to file called “ft10-colours.sh”, save it and make it executable. Run it to select your Ft10 background color:#!/bin/bash # Tint2 toolbar quick settings- toggle toobar and menu colors, by PPC FILE="$HOME/.config/tint2/tint2rc" STRING="background_color = #000000 95 #ft10 toolbar background" Blue_color=$"blue" Grey_color=$"grey" #White_color=$"white" dark_mode="Dark Mode" choice=$(yad --width=250 --title=$"FT10 Colors" --center --form --field=" :CB" "$dark_mode"\!$Blue_color\!$Grey_color) choice=${choice%?} echo $choice if [ "$choice" == "$dark_mode" ]; then sed -i 's:background_color =.*:\background_color = \#000000 95 \#ft10 toolbar background:' $FILE sed -i 's/task_font_color =.*/task_font_color = \#ffffff 100/' $FILE sed -i 's/clock_font_color =.*/clock_font_color = \#ffffff 100/' $FILE sed -i 's/execp_font_color =.*/execp_font_color = \#ffffff 100/' $FILE sed -i 's/tooltip_font_color =.*/tooltip_font_color = \#ffffff 100/' $FILE sed -i 's/battery_font_color =.*/battery_font_color = \#ffffff 100/' $FILE fi if [ "$choice" == "$Grey_color" ]; then sed -i 's:background_color =.*:\background_color = \#808090 95 \#ft10 toolbar background:' $FILE sed -i 's/task_font_color =.*/task_font_color = \#000000 100/' $FILE sed -i 's/clock_font_color =.*/clock_font_color = \#000000 100/' $FILE sed -i 's/execp_font_color =.*/execp_font_color = \#000000 100/' $FILE sed -i 's/tooltip_font_color =.*/tooltip_font_color = \#000000 100/' $FILE sed -i 's/battery_font_color =.*/battery_font_color = \#000000 100/' $FILE fi if [ "$choice" == "$Blue_color" ]; then sed -i 's:background_color =.*:\background_color = \#4682B4 95 \#ft10 toolbar background:' $FILE sed -i 's/task_font_color =.*/task_font_color = \#000000 100/' $FILE sed -i 's/clock_font_color =.*/clock_font_color = \#000000 100/' $FILE sed -i 's/execp_font_color =.*/execp_font_color = \#000000 100/' $FILE sed -i 's/tooltip_font_color =.*/tooltip_font_color = \#000000 100/' $FILE sed -i 's/battery_font_color =.*/battery_font_color = \#000000 100/' $FILE fi # restart tint2 killall -9 tint2 nohup tint2 &- This reply was modified 1 year, 1 month ago by PPC.

You are far more fast to write programs than me to write to you 🙂As far as your “retro thinking – guideline” that brought you to the very good FT10 so far is concerned, and that you kindly expressed in your post #79197, for what little my opinion counts, I agree with you 100%.
The idea behind FT10 is to make antiX have most of the features users of most modern OS take for granted, and also make it look a bit more up to date…
Is a very good approach, in order to easier the life to the new linux user, and to make them to better appreciate what they use.
The common idea is that if you want to re-use your old equipment you have to renounce to something, And that is true in most cases. But if the beauty, which is a subjective value, does not cost in terms of weight of the OS, why not?
And personal likes and dislikes are often the reason behind the success of a product. Sometimes their value is most important than tech reasons.
So, many thx to have taken into consideration my friends/clients suggestion.
Moreover because this is strictly connected with your “guideline”.Please find below a couple of screenshots with different colors.
With very little, the result is amazing, according to me 🙂——————————-
As far as the others facilities you add to the FT10, I agree with every single one.
They seem to me chosen very accurately.m

::@madibi – thanks for testing the script. a slightly altered version with 1 more color and better combination of background/foreground colors is available here, if anyone wants to test it and make suggestions: https://gitlab.com/antix-contribs/ft10-transformation/-/raw/main/ft10-colours
The script will be added to the next FT version – I think it covers about 90% of user needs, in what concerns toolbar/menu colors, from what I saw on-line… Most people that come from Windows 10 will find that the colors they are used to are available out of the box…
Probably I’ll add this script to the “FT10 enable” window – so users can set up the way the system looks right from the start… Also, I’m thinking of adding, to the script’s window, an option to launch the application that configures the window theme, so the user can configure everything in a row- most newbies don’t explore the Control Center and are unaware that almost every single detail of how antiX looks can be configured using a GUI…
Note: It would be trivial, even less work to use a color picker- so users could select the exact colors… but there could be a mismatch between the foreground and background colors, making it very difficult to read the menu/toolbar, and that would imply that the users had to select first the background color and then the foreground color – it would mean more freedom to the user, but also make FT10 much more difficult to configure.
Damn, Marcelo is right, antiX with FT10 is looking almost like a Desktop Environment… I’m not sure if that’s a positive thing or not – I want to avoid “bloat” as much as I can…P.

::A new FT10 beta was unleashed. It’s available here: https://gitlab.com/antix-contribs/ft10-transformation/-/raw/main/ft10-transformation_1.4.b5_all.deb
Changes:
– in the Toolbar manager ( right click the +/- icon), the “Toggle dark mode” option was replaced with “Toolbar and menu color” that offers 8 different colors to choose from, and also quick access to lxappearance, if the user wants to change the way the window itself look (ex: using Arc Dark widget theme to match a Darker toolbar/menu theme).
– if you have “kronometer” installed, it automatically replaces the default cli stopwatch.
– a new .desktop file adds a “Maps” menu entry that opens OpenStreetMaps.org on the default internet browser.P.
Edit:
@madibi – I forgot to address your suggestion about using pre defined profiles that changed who FT10 looks.
Implementing that would be hard work, and users can get the same end result by selecting the kind of Menu them want to use and then configure FT10 (right clicking the +/- toolbar icon).Examples:
-“Windows 98” look: select the “Categories menu”, then select the “Light color theme” and the option to display Window Titles in the menu
– “Windows 11” look: select the “Tiled menu”, select the color you want (I think the default is the Dark Theme), in the menu, click “Favorite apps” and click to toggle off the “Tiles”. Change the window manager to Fluxbox and select the Numix style in the Fluxbox menu. Make sure “compton” is installed and, from the menu, select the option to use “Visual Effects”
– You can mix as many option as you want to make antiX and FT10 look just like you want…

What I wrote was just an indication of what Q4OS team did – and is continuing to do.
I really liked yesterday’s results.
Both:
-from the aesthetic point of view;
-from the tech point of view, I think that it is a fantastic result what anticapitalista did in creating a COMPLETE system that works under 200 Mram (the unique one in the entire linux panorama). And FT10 (your pack) too, that I like to think as a marketing lifting addressed to less tech users, in order to broaden the potential target. And it doesn’t even cost 1 Mram more.
Really a sterling resultMarch 20, 2022 at 7:00 am #79407Membermadibi

results of test of ft10-transformation_1.4.b5_all.deb, after 150′, this morning:
– installation: ok;
– look: great. I like the selection of choices too;
– localization: the Italian one is not so good. My fault, in the latest 2 weeks I didnt look at transiflex.
– usage: responsive, fast. Bluetooth works, sound too. Antix 21 + FT10is installed in my external HD usb, I saw some youtube with no probs through FFox esr. (And meteo is 7° sunny day – before I did never use meteo app on pc 🙂 )mini DISCUSSION ON BLOAT
I hope to not be OT writing the following, that was also discussed in 2 others treads.What is a perfect system: the one that has the number of programs that I like (P = N)
what is a bloated system: the one that has Programs P > N
what is a barebone system: the one that has Programs P < NUnfortunately I searched in the Museum of weights and measures in Paris, and I didn’t find nor the definition of bloat, neither the measure of what I think P should be.
That said,
@oltsztyn wrote:
My take on gnome-maps: It would be great to have this latest in antiX
I’m not sure that to insert Open Source Map application in antix ootb, fits with what @anticapitalista wrote on December 01, 2020 as a guideline for antix: it may be considered a bloat. If the question is whether to insert it in the app centre, my answer is a big yes.
On the other hand, I think that the inclusion of this program is consistent with your idea of what FT10 should be (see your post 79197). So I agree that it should be immediately included in the transformation pack FT10.Little note aside
The ram usage indicator in the bottom tray gives results different from the ones of conky.Par contre coincides with the one given by lxtask.
When I did searches for a distro, I saw that the indication of ram usage differs according to the tool used. So I decided to stick to lxtask, in order to avoid to “compare pears with potatoes”.m

::Thanks for the feedback!
A new beta version (very close to the final one) is out: https://gitlab.com/antix-contribs/ft10-transformation/-/raw/main/packages/ft10-transformation_1.4.b6_all.deb
Changes:
– improved Toolbar configuration tool (right click +/- icon on the toolbar)- has the option to select any background colour in a colour picker, allows to toggle on/off the Conman, volume, USB ejector and Power off icons.
– improved localization on zzzfm’s “trash” related entries
– made some internal changes to the Shared Folders script@madibi – can I send you a compressed version of all Italian localization files, so you can correct them? The ones on gitlab and transifex are not up to date!
I extend the same offer/ ask the same favour to French, German and Spanish speaking users…

::@All FT10 users (particularly those that test the latest beta version) – are any of you seeing any formatting problems when using the “Tiled menu” layout (ex: the selection bar or the separator line taking some space in the “Tiles” section)?
I got on such report, and I can’t reproduce it, with the default FT10 settings. I’m well aware that those problems happen when users select a font that’s too big (ubuntu fonts up to size 14-15 don’t have that problem, but that varies, from font to font)Thanks in advance,

Today’s tests results:
1.
are any of you seeing any formatting problems when using the “Tiled menu” layout (ex: the selection bar or the separator line taking some space in the “Tiles” section)?
yes: in case I increase the characters dimension, or I format it in bold, the separator line increases to the right and overlaps the left part of the tiles menu (in case I can send you a shot);
2. randomly (sorry), if I switch between the 2 menu layouts, sometimes in the lower right side of the tray bar, it appears a 2nd flag of the localizated keyboard (in any case, max 2);
3. in some cases, after having changed the dimensions of the characters, pressing “enter” doesn’t bring to the previous menu: instead after having made the changes and having pressed “enter”, in order to exit I need to push the “x” button, in the upper right corner;
4. after “FT10 – deactivate” I don’t get anymore my fluxbox menu, instead I get something that I am not used to.
EDIT:
tests done on antix 21 full, ft10-transformation_1.4.b5_all.deb, installed after having purged the previous version. In case of needs, I can make other tests on a fresh install.- This reply was modified 1 year, 1 month ago by madibi.

::@madibi – many thanks for testing!
1- I was aware, and probably I warned users about that on previous posts that changing the toolbar/menu fonts can miss-configure the Tiled menu – that’s why my original FT10 concept did not include the easy choice to change the fonts… but I got a report that letters in the menu and toolbar were extremely hard to read in my high resolution screens and I had the change the default layout to accommodate a larger font by default, and in the process I added the option that allows users to change the font freely. I need to add a warning, in the font selection menu, that using large font sizes can miss-configure the toolbar or the menu…
My main concern is that I got the report that the menu was dis-configured (without the user referencing that the default configuration was changed).
a lot of work went into using the “perfect” default settings in jgmenu, so it fits almost 100% of all possible use cases…2- There were some reports about the system tray “language” icon launching a new instance when the tint2 toolbar reloads – there’s nothing I can do directly (I did not write the language application- my scripts usually have safe guards that stop users from running more than one instance of the same script). I can try adding, during the toolbar reload process, a reasonably complex script that forces the language tray icon to close before reloading the tint2 toolbar – but probably that won’t happen for now..
3- I’m not sure if I understand what you are reporting – when changing the font the “font selection window” always refreshes (it may appear in a different place, sometimes, window managers like to do that sometimes) and always has to be closed by the user (so the user can quickly fix anything wrong with the current selection)
4- I tested FT10 originally on a virgin antiX 21 (via virtualbox), on all 3 different floating window managers that antiX includes. The only bug I found is, that if you had volumeicon on your toolbar, to get it back once you disable FT10 is first running the “FT10 enable window”, uncheck the volumeicon part and then running the option to disable FT10. The FT10 scripts, were not meant to change the currently running window manager… Is it possible that you changed the window manager by clicking a menu option? If I can reproduce this bug, this is a serious bug… One of my concerns is that the users can easily get back to their default setting, if don’t like FT10- I know of one other Transformation Pack, DTOS,for Arch Linux, and once run, that pack can’t be easily uninstalled…
If need be, I can create a warning that users may not get back to their default Window Manager settings after enabling FT10…
If you can, please test this again, and send me any details…P.
