I agree with the fewer images, the better, my single exception is icons, that are essential for most people, that’s why I worked so hard to create this new icon set…
The fonts don’t bug me much, because if they are not installed, conky uses the system default…
I’ll try to dig up a command that reads the SSID in my laptop, and use that one, if possible- SSID is not really essential, but it’s nice, for example, if you are on a laptop and have several wifi networks available, you know to which one you are connected (for example, if you know your neighours wifi password, and want to make sure that you are connected to your own network and not theirs…)
Very nice idea about the Sum symbol- the only reason I won’t use it it’s because most people do not know what it means… And “Total” is the same in several languages, like english, portuguese, spanish, french, danish… (in Italian it’s understandable- its just spelled different- “totale”- I had some fun with google translator). So probably there’s much more people that understand what the word means vs the ones that know mathematical symbols… But in future releases I may try to localize that word, much like I did, for example, the “Tiles” title…

I’m glad you like what you see, Marcelo.

PPC, I’d say it’s looking good. I did try light mode. There is nothing wrong with it, but I like the darker better. I’m fine with whatever you decide on the network status conky window. I do agree that the ESSID is also important to see.

The trash system is for another day after complete permutation testing, IMO. I wouldn’t want to be the cause of data loss.

Dear PPC,

I wish you a happy new year 2022.

I have installed your program on my desktop with two screens. I have an NVIDIA GTX960 card (2GB ram) – default driver installed “Nouveau”. I have not installed the NVIDIA driver.
Test made with antiX 21 full 64bits
– zzz-icewm desktop not working well with multiple monitors,
– zzz-fluxbox desktop that works better with multiple monitors.

I chose the “Windows” presentation at startup.

The menu is not translated correctly into French. It is a mixture of Russian, English and French.

I get a message that my battery is low. Strange because I don’t work with a laptop and I don’t have a battery. I use an Eaton Ellipse Pro 650 UPS to protect my desktop. TINT2 doesn’t know the difference.
With antiX 21 standard, I don’t get a message for a low battery.
With MX Linux, it makes the difference and tells me that I am using a UPS.

Your taskbar appears well below both screens. This is exactly the same behaviour as Windows 10. That’s good!

With Fluxbox, the taskbars are superimposed. So it is not possible to work with the Fluxbox environment.

I can’t find the first menu to choose between the two environments, either “Debian” presentation or “Windows” presentation.
I have uninstalled with a purge the two packages “FT10 Transformation pack.deb” and “jgmenu.deb”.
I reinstalled “jgmenu.deb” and then “FT10-Transformation pack.deb”.
I can’t find the window to choose “Debian” or “Windows” presentations.
There must be a trace in a configuration file that prevents me from choosing one of the two presentations again.

Hi Wallon

Wow I was not expecting so many problems!
-First, I’ll try to solve what probably is easier to solve- the problem with fluxbox – I created the transformation pack to be as minimally intrusive as possible, so it only configures FT10 to run with the currently running Window Manager- the point is that if you want IceWM to use FT10 and Fluxbox or JWM to continue working as normal, you log off Icewm, log back on to fluxbox and get the default fluxbox.
From what you say about the superimposed toolbars, I’m assuming you installing FT10 on a window manager different from Fluxbox and then switched to Fluxbox… It that is the case, in the Fluxbox menu, go to Preferences and activate FT10 for Fluxbox- the default toolbar should go away. Just to be on the safe side log off and back on…
All my test machines run Fluxbox (the “F” from FT10 comes from Fluxbox, because the transformation pack was meant originally to configure Fluxbox to run with Tint2 toolbar…)- I never experienced the problem you got. or it ever been reported.
Another possibility is the fact that you are using more than 1 monitor- I never tested FT10 with more than one monitor, tint2 toolbar may not work well it that set up…

-The menu problems- very strange- FT10 is originally in English and fully localized to pt and pt-br, and partly localized to spanish. All menu entries that are not localized should come up in English (example- the categories names and the default favorite app, the Tiles description, the toolbar tooltips) or the system’s language (in your case, french, I guess)
The localization of the menu is not handled by any of my scripts or config files (except for the cases I previously mentioned). You seem to have come up with a bug in jgmenu- the application that FT10 uses to display the menu- I have no way to solve that 🙁 I can show you how to alter the toolbar config so clicking the start menu makes the default menu appear (please note that if you run FT10 in IceWM or Fluxbox and have not altered the defaul keybinds, right clicking the start menu makes the IceWM or Fluxbox menus appear)

TINT2 doesn’t know the difference.”- strange- I thought I had turned off tint2 battery warning, because it always appeared on my office desktop (that’s connected directly to the power line and has no battery, UPS). I’ll check if there’s a regression and the batery warning was placed back into the tint2 config file template…

Thanks- we aimed that making FT10 as easy to use and as feature rich as possible, and also, by default, as similar to Windows as possible, to ease the transition for people comming over to antiX or that have to switch between antiX and Windows 10… That said- you first picture DOES NOT look like what FT10 is supposed to look!
Once again I’m assuming that’s because you use more than one monitor, since I never got that problem nor has it ever been reported by the folks that have been testing FT10… What you get seem to get is the second half of the icons of the toolbar placed befor the first half, and everything centered on the middle of toolbar! Do you see the “star menu” icon? (the one that looks like a X, made of white squares? That should be the first icon, placed on the most left side of the toolbar, and the red “power” button should be on the most right side of the screen…

From your screen grab I can see that you instaled an older version of FT10- you probably originally compiled the source code that is a bit out of date- please follow the instructions on this thread and download and install the latest .deb package in gitlab (currently it’s version 1.0)
Try this: install the .deb file [more details below] and then go the antiX menu > preferences and activate FT10.
Just to be on the safe side- log off and back on- and see if everything looks as it should. If you are still experiencing problems, I ask you this: turn you computer off and reboot it using a single monitor- just so I know if this is some kind of problem that tint2 has with using more than one screen… (if so I have to put up a warning, that ft10 should only be run on a single monitor)

-“I can’t find the window to choose “Debian” or “Windows” presentations.”- on the Tiled menu (“windows” as you call it), searching for “FT10” should display all the FT10 related menu entries, including the ones that allow you to “active FT10 or select the menu template” (it’s all done on the same script). On the Categories menu (“Debian” as you call it), under Preferences, you should get all 4 FT10 configuration menu entries. Also, you can always run the default antiX menu by left clicking on an empty part of the desktop, and go to “preferences” to find those settings…

-Once you purged FT10, try deleting, in your home folder, inside the hidden “.config” folder, the “jgmenu” and “tint2” folders- that should remove all the original config files. Then, try reinstalling FT10’s .deb file (try doing it with “sudo apt install [full_path_to_the_file.deb]”, Please let me know if that works for you!

@BobC [please read my edit and test on your devices and get back to me…]:
I just posted in gitlab the .deb package – version 1.0b, with an updated “Network Info applet”- the ethernet info window looks much better and the wi-fi one too- it now, thanks to BobC (I had to adapt your changes a little bit, for it to work), the SSID name should always (famous lat words) be displayed. It was also altered to be completely multilingual- the only text string that is displayed, other than the data, is “IP”, and that’s universal 🙂
I fixed up the calendar, adding a missing window toolbar icon, and tweaking the function that edits events to make it harder to accidentally delete an entry by clicking “cancel” – that did not cancel the edition, but in fact canceled the event- I had an “Oops!” event with that myself, and I’m the guy that created the script).

EDIT: I just tested on my old 32 bits laptop that refused to show the SSID- now it refuses to even show any conky window. After some trial and error I found out that, for some reason, that particular computer refuses the access the content of the ssid command unless it’s running the command from the terminal.
I consider that there is no universal way to always show the SSID on all possible computers so, I would suggest editing the related Conky line to this (so if the command to display the SSID inside conky fails, at least the conky window, without SSID is always shown:

By private message PPC wrote to me about the network monitor:

My suggestion is as follows:
Whether this signal is measured in Hz? So it’s better to drop the word “Signal” and include the unit of measure. This way the program will be perfect in any language.

Wallon, I believe that JGMenu is “lost” regarding the language texts, for now, the FT10 doesn’t have the texts translated to your language, I believe this problem can be solved once the time for the .pot files and .po files are sent to Transifex so we can create the .mo files for fr, fr_BR, de, etc.

When everything is ready, we will be able to make the files available in Transifex antiX contribs with the help of Xecure or Robin.

Thanks to everyone involved in FT10, PPC for creating, and people who are helping with programming or testing.

Por mensagem particular o PPC me escreveu sobre o monitor de rede:

“… apenas um único texto que necessita ser localizado “Signal” (que indica a potência do sinal sem fios). As más notícias para si é que esta janela não é gerada por um script que possa ser localizado…”
A minha sugestão é a seguinte:
Se este sinal é medido em Hz? Então é melhor tirar a palavra “Signal” e incluir a unidade de medida. Assim o programa estará perfeito em qualquer idioma.

Wallon, eu acredito que o JGMenu esteja “perdido” quanto aos textos do idioma, por enquanto, o FT10 não tem os textos traduzidos para o seu idioma, eu acredito que este problema poderá ser resolvido assim que chegar o momento dos arquivos .pot e .po forem enviados para o Transifex, assim poderemos criar os arquivos .mo para fr, fr_BR, de, etc.

Quando tudo estiver pronto, poderemos disponibilizar os arquivos no Transifex antiX contribs com a ajuda do Xecure ou do Robin.

Eu agradeço a todos que estão envolvidos no FT10, ao PPC por criar e as pessoas que estão ajudando programando ou testando.

If it is not the latest version, can you tell me the name of the latest version to download?

For package installation, I use “debinstaller” in zzz-fm. It is thanks to you that I could install “debinstaller”.

You need to zoom in on the screenshots. With Google Chrome, you will see the whole screenshot with all the icons on the left. Unfortunately, with the application provided by antiX, you can’t take a screenshot of either the left or the right screen. It automatically takes a single capture of both screens at the same time.

(Lots of laughter) Sorry for the typo (laughs). Although for very little the states of Rio de Janeiro and Maranhão were almost “francesized” as we say here. At the time Portugal fought this artistic and cultural movement, as a result of which our Portuguese language absorbed a lot of the French language, such as:

The word “controlo” sounds very strange to our Brazilian ears.

@BobC (and all): I fixed the Network info applet! Please download and test version 1.0c- the reason why the command ” iwgetid -r” failed to work inside tint2 directly and also on some computers was because it (for some obscure reason) needs some paths to be set if it isn’t being run directly from the terminal (or from a script being run from the terminal).
I fixed both the conky file and the related tint2rc entry- It works on both my test computers…

@Wallon – localizing FT10 to french is not particulary hard- there are, now some 30-40 text strings that need to be translated, so FT10 is fully localized- it runs completly in pt and pt-br. If you want to help localize it to french, I can PM you the needed files and explain how to translate them…
Just curious- what part of the menu is in “russian”- is it an application from the “all apps” list= Perhaps “debinstaller”?
Currently the most up to date FT10 version is this:

Edit: I just read your previous post: yes, I was right- the “russian” part is the “Deb installer” – I noticed that on my desktop- for some reason jgmenu thinks it’s in Cyrilic 🙂
Don’t worry, you have not encontered any serious jgmenu bug! At the part of the menu that’s in English- that’s nornal- it happens because FT10 is not yet localized to French (like I said before, you can help us out with that). The french parts of the menu is the info that jgmenu gets from the applications installed in your system- it automatically localizes the applications names and descriptions (from the info inside the respective app’s .desktop files).
Does the extremely wide screen grab show both your monitors, it that it?

Edit2; I solved the problem with “debinstaller” comming up in Russian: it’s a bug with it’s .desktop file.
Steps to solve that:
1- In the terminal run this command to edit the .desktop file:
sudo geany /usr/share/applications/debinstaller.desktop
2- Inside the text file change the line nr 4: “Name=[ru]Дебинсталлятор” to “Name[ru]=Дебинсталлятор” and save it – problem instantly solved 🙂

The alternative is to provide the full path of all executable images.

When one of these methods is used there is no chance of calling the wrong program unless the program locations change. Periodic examination of code path will mitigate changing code location.
