antix-wifi-switch to translate

Hello to all translators and developers,

I would like a confirmation for 2 strings to be translated at Transifex.

N°25 “Wi-Fi softblocked.” = Does this mean that the WIFI is blocked by a program or software?

N°32 “WIFI HARD BLOCKED” = Does it mean that the WIFI is blocked by the hardware, hardware components of the PC?

For Portuguese and Brazilian translators,

I read your translation in the string n°1 at Transifex;
Usar: $ME [<opções>] [ceni|connman]

In other languages there is no <opções>.

Should this be added also in other languages or is it a translation error?

For Italian translators,

I read your translation in string n°9 at Transifex;
–field=”CENI!ceni!Switch to ceni”:FBTN ‘bash -c switch_to_ceni’
I think you can translate “Switch to ceni” into Italian.

I read your translation in string n°10 at Transifex;
–field=”CONNMAN!connman!Switch to connman”:FBTN ‘bash -c switch_to_connman’
I think you can translate “Switch to connman” into Italian.

This may be an oversight, not an obligation to translate.

To all translators,

I think that strings no. 47, 48, 49 with expressions like [Yy] or [Nn] or (y/n) cannot be translated.
The developer did not make a remark about this.
All abbreviations of all languages should be translated in the code. I don’t think the developer has planned this.

It would be nice to have confirmation from a developer.

Exactly. It is software blocked. The term softblock I got it from rfkill, but it means exactly what you said.

It means that a Hardware switch has disabled it. It could be a button or switch on the keyboard, or an options in the BIOS that disables access to the wireless card from any Operating System. Software blocked can usually be enabled by using some option in the Operating system, but Hardware blocked is not so easy to get it to work with any program.

In English, when you run antix-wifi-switch –help, it will display this:
Usage: antix-wifi-switch [<options>] [ceni|connman]
It means that to run the command, you can ask to use special “options” (usually <word> means that you can switch this <word> for a specific string of characters) to make the program run in a specific way (antix-wifi-switch –cli would run the program in terminal only, without graphical interface).

It would be good to include it like:
Utilisation : $ME [<options>] [ceni|connman]
in French, so that the French user understands that they can use certain options after the command name to get different results.

Don’t worry to much on this, anyway. Most users will only click on the program in the menus and use push the button, and never use the command line options. The dialogs related to “editing /etc/network/interfaces” or “wireless is blocked by software/hardware”, to know if something is going wrong.

I wasn’t able then to use the proper yes/no request. on the script to use the system’s language option for Yes/No. I will add some notes now.

Xecure, thanks for replying to Wallon, I was able to check the translations I did in pt-BR.

Don’t spend too much time on this program, as it is almost a legacy program after the connman update that has fixed compatibility with ceni.

Do you think that in antiX 21 to switch from Connman to Ceni and vice versa you will no longer need the antiX WiFi Switch?

If it weren’t for the antiX WiFi Switch I would never have been able to make the NGO computers connect to the WiFi using Ceni and have to edit the configuration files manually.

Você acha que no antiX 21 para fazer alternância entre do Connman para o Ceni e vice-versa não precisará mais do antiX WiFi Switch?

Se não fosse pelo antiX WiFi Switch eu nunca conseguiria fazer os computadores a ONG conectar no Wi-Fi utilizando o Ceni e ter que editar os arquivos de configurações manualmente.

Withou antix-wifi-switch, from ceni to connman you would still need to remove wireless configuration inside /etc/network/interfaces and restart the networking service, but nothing else. From connman to ceni it is even simpler, disconnect from the wireless access point in cmst, stopping the connman service, and running ceni and connecting to the access point. The only other thing needed is to stop and start the resolvconf service or to reboot.

antix-wifi-switch still makes it a bit easier, but i is no longer a requirement, as the /etc/resolv.conf symlink doesn’t need to be changed. For now it can still be used as a simple one-step on the current sesson to make those changes, but a reboot would have the exact same effect (restarting the networking service or restarting the resolvconf service).

While it may not be an absolutely essential tool, I personally like and appreciate the antix-wifi-switch; it makes certain that all necessary files are correct for whichever network manager is chosen. Individuals who know what they are doing can choose to either use it or use their own methods, but by providing this tool, anyone with an issue can simply use the tool to select their network manager of choice and everything gets configured properly.

Given that we have a flexible distribution we have choices, including the choice to use the available tools or develop our own “solutions” for personal use.

I have to apologize publicly for the string n°1.

Utilisation : $ME [<options>] [ceni|connman]

Let me explain.

In Transifex, in the user preferences (the little jagged wheel at the top of the screen), if the editor is not in raw mode, we will have little icons with a number written in the icon. See my first screenshot.

In Transifex, if the editor is in raw mode, the blue icon is translated. You can see that the string [<options>] is there in French as well as in Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese.
