      Been using Rox Panel Toggle in Xfce and it suddenly disappeared. Wondering if there is any connection with installing gvfs-backends – seemed to be gone after that. Maybe just a coincidence or it was never supposed to be enabled in Xfce after switching desktops?

      Searched online, forums, and /usr/share/icewm/preferences, could not find information or settings regarding this.

      The congiguration file appears to still be there (/home/rj/.config/rox.sourceforge.net/ROX-Filer/pan_PANEL, just no access to it.

      Error message when application icon is clicked on:

      Failed to execute command “paneltoggle.sh”.
      Failed to execute child process
      “paneltoggle.sh” (No such directory)

      AntiX is rich in options for setting up something else – just wanted to know if I did something wrong and deleted or disabled the toggle for it.

      Thank you.

        1st. I’d look at

        harry@biker:~
        $ locate paneltoggle.sh
        /usr/local/bin/paneltoggle.sh

        The error message says looking for a directory. paneltoggle.sh is a executable text file. Your screwup looks like to me like systemd got pulled in somehow. Which defaults to using /usr/bin. From past experience. When I broke my installs. Pulling in systemd into my AntiX installs. Files in /usr/local/bin would become non functioning. Since systemd defualts to using /usr/bin.

        On my working install. You can compare my readout to yours to see if you pulled in anything extra.

        I’d also look at the application you are clicking on and trac down where it looks for files to launch. If ignoring /usr/local/bin. There is your problem.

            Not sure what you did. Even on my older AntiX version installation I have

            harry@biker:~
            $ locate paneltoggle.sh
            /usr/local/bin/paneltoggle.sh
            harry@biker:~
            $ inxi -S
            System: Host: biker Kernel: 4.9.79-antix.1-686-smp-pae i686 bits: 32 Desktop: IceWM 1.3.8
                       Distro: antiX-15-V_386-full Killah P 30 June 2015

            But you don’t have panetoggle.sh showing in your screen shot.

            I guess you can take mine from AntiX 15. Extract it and put it /usr/local/bin and see if fixes your error.

              Thank you.

              The application icon that I am clicking (in Xfce desktop) is missing the directory “paneltoggle.sh”. Hunting through many files and folders and using searchmonkey and geany, I have tried to find if it is anywhere in the system and have not been able to locate anything except rox filer. The “$ locate systemd” appears to be identical on another computer that I still have icewm running on. However the rox panel toggle displays its panel when clicked on.

              I am wondering how systemd was invoked. I have not installed anything outside of the package installers provided – debian stable and the package installer in the control center. Maybe geoclue2 for redshift invoked it?

              The directory seems to be completely gone.

              Different desktop, different kernel-

                My guess is that the package desktop-defaults-rox-antix got removed somehow as it is what contains the paneltoggle.sh script.

                Maybe you could post your apt history?

                  I have installed Xfce on 4 x64 computers [T61, T61p, T420, T520] with the same snapshot of Feb 3, originating from the T520. All have the “missing directory” error for panel toggle – it is in the live USB snapshot. gvfs-backends was installed Feb 2. Was using Panel toggle previously to that for putting apps on my Xfce taskbar by dragging them from the rox panel.

                  Could not find the package “desktop-defaults-rox-antix”.

                  Thanks for looking into this.

                    That warning usually pre – dates a re -install on my part. Because something is broken. You have a lot of those messages.
                    There is more going on here than meets the eye.

                    On my breakage. I have had error code 3 and 4 also from past snafus on my part.

                      There it is.
                      Not sure why it is that you cannot find it, but it has been removed and needs to be reinstalled.

                          Again thank you all for trying to resolve this for me.

                          If it had teeth…Can’t believe after rifling through loads of files, previous installed snapshots, settings, apps for searching, there it was right in front of my eyes.. So sorry I missed that! Not that I would have known what to do about it…

                          “There is more going on here than meets the eye” is very accurate.

                          Armed with all the information you have generously provided, I have put a completely fresh install on another computer to retrace my moves, make system comparisons and hope to see where I derailed it.

                          After fresh installation, before doing anything but setting wifi, I upgraded and updated, which was not done at first on the original install. The same issues turned up which were easily correctable – wifi, firewall, xscreensaver not starting. But the larger issue occured when switching desktops after installing Xfce. When I tried to log in – no go. Would not accept login password. Went back to IceWM and took a look in synaptic – which immediately, turned out the broken package – gvfs. On the previous install the gvfs problem did not turn up at that login point – it was later with using thunar and it was “backends”. Maybe because of the upgrade-update timing. However when I fixed it, the login worked and I could get to the Xfce desktop. And this is the point where I think I went wrong in the original (panel-missing install), after many tries at fixing, (as I cannot remember ever uninstalling anything besides Hexchat and Thunderbird – and that was in MX17), I must have been looking through desktop programs as a last ditch effort to make it work and somehow chose to uninstall this important directory and got Xfce to run by doing so, yet unknowingly missing features. I can’t find any records that I keep as I make changes regarding this and cannot remember doing this, but the evidence is quite clear.
                          ======================

                          The only problem I had a lot of trouble resolving on the new install, is auto-login. Wouldn’t do it through the regular route [control center-maintenence-user manager].

                          What worked:

                          (attached files did not load correctly – tried to delete them and could not) added these lines below as sudo nano
                          in:

                          lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf.d
                          and
                          lightdm/lightdm/conf.d /

                          added (as the 2 last lines in each file as sudo in nano editer):

                          autologin-user=rj
                          autologin-user-timeout=0

                          ———————–
                          Added last 2 entries on both files – it worked and hoping it does not cause further problems from having to change both.

                          I was not necessary to change the “lightdm/lightdm/conf.d / “ file on the first original (with no rox panel toggle) – only the “dm/lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf.d” file

                          I hope I have not yet again initiated more problems by doing so. I did make a snapshot prior, but don’t want to find down the road on 5 laptops that it is causing an issue(s) with something else.

                          =================================
                          As far as installing the “desktop-defaults-rox-antix 0.4.5” directory, I have either done it wrong or “There is more going on here than meets the eye” or both, as my skills at the terminal and understanding script and the terminology, are pretty limited to say the least – trying to improve that as I go along. But, this is the result:(E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.)- where are they? could not find any “broken packages” in synaptic

                          This may be not within-reason fixable.

                          [Mountbox result – below the panel entry (has been working all along).]

                                desktop-defaults-rox is already installed on antiX-17-full (and base), so is mountbox-antix

                                  Hi-

                                  Thanks>

                                  I still cannot locate the panel to use. Do I need to do something else to get that feature or is that involved in the “held broken packages”?
