      I used antiX17 and put antiX19 clean install on another partition of the hard-drive for a “soft change” (mounting 17, if files needed from there).

      Tried to install Opera (gives me the least freezing-time) – which seems not to be available through the ordinary channels so I used Operas web-page, offering opera-stable_65.0.3467.48_amd64.deb .
      Accepted the install-procedure including removing files with the result, that the video-part of AntiX19 was missing resp. destroyed, only a terminal login available after install (I installed 19 two times for Opera).

      For people not firm with Linux maybe they should be aware of this to avoid unnecessary trouble with their system.

        I assume you installed opera with gdebi, which want’s to remove a lot of programms. Indeed this is a bad experience, exspecially for someone who is new to linux.
        It’s possible to install opera with the command
        sudo dpkg -i opera-stable_65.0.3467.38_amd64.deb

        Please look here
        opera-install
        `

          Indeed, I am a simple user and just followed instructions as offered, which is gdebi to install the program. Point is – as Opera installs and works well with the older version you might conclude the fault lies in antiX19. Which is not the case.

          Not being to familiar with Linux best option is a new install checking the box “keep /home” which should keep the personal files intact.

          {My personal solution is keeping two partitions: one active, the other for new systems, copying files if needed, eventually changing over completely.}

          Thanks for the answer, I will give that type of install a try. For my personal usage I have the impression Opera has the advantage of less “freezing” resp. being more stable with scripts, thats why.

              [The answer this is referring to was deleted, nevertheles: you can go via the controlpanel, system, to install programs.]

              I got those via the system ->; menue ->; prog (Synaptic,Paket-Installer) both without results to Opera.
              Only on the Opera-Webpage the file was offered for download (and install).

              By the way: I tried
              sudo dpkg -i opera-stable_65.0.3467.38_amd64.deb
              without result either (archive resp. file not found).

              No sweat, just to share experience.

                archive resp. file not found

                This very likely means you have to go to the direction where the downloaded file is.
                Assuming the downloaded file is in your Downloads folder, open terminal and type
                cd Downloads

                afterwards the dpkg-command from above.

                  Sorry,I’ve just seen the version from download-side has already changed, so the command is
                  sudo dpkg -i opera-stable_65.0.3467.48_amd64.deb

                    Yes, I found the same thing when I booted my laptop to check out 19. This machine is still running 17 and I installed Opera ages ago, and now it shows up in the control system menu. This could be something I did, or maybe it always happens on 17. I got back on this machine and deleted my comment because I didn’t want to cause confusion. Sorry again. Mea culpa!

                      Thanks for the hints, here now my conclusion:

                      Opera for Dummies, antiX19 / 64-systems

                      As of this time:

                      Opera seems only to be found on their web-page. Go there, download the offered file, which should be:
                      opera-stable_65.0.3467.48_amd64.deb
                      Only save that to the downloadfolder – do not select any further actions offered.

                      Go via the menue, select Filemanager and go to your download-folder, see, that the opera-file is there.
                      Rightclick in an open place, select window -> open terminal here.

                      In the terminal window insert:
                      sudo dpkg -i opera-stable_65.0.3467.48_amd64.deb
                      [resp. the file you downloaded for opera, if that changed.]

                      Ther will be a question for the password,
                      followed by a note about updates – which is strongly recommended with <yes>. Not knowing better hit enter.

                      This will be followed by a bundle of notes, not getting wise it means, the system at work.

                      After that stops you will not find much – you have to type opera into the terminal to initialize it.

                      Which is followed by another bundle of notes, eventually building up Operas Window (which may take eternities, see below).

                      To avoid this:

                      Go to menue, control-center ->
                      IceWM -> click on the icon ->
                      in geany the file menue opens ->
                      go to the line prog “Web Browser” (should be number 4),
                      copy it and insert below or above,
                      delete the ending desktop-defaults-run -b and type there opera, SAVE all.

                      You may change icons there and so on, but that is not my part here.

                      ———

                      Thats the mumble-rumble opera is fighting with getting up:
                      $ opera
