::Dear Robin,
Are you going to overwrite the [fr] and [fr_BE] translations at Transifex?
Is it possible to avoid this?
Kind regards,
WallonOctober 19, 2022 at 8:31 pm #91012MemberRobin
::Hello Wallon,
for sure I’m not going to overwrite any of your existing translations. How should I dare? I hardly can read and understand french language…
I have not touched any french string after 2022-09-22, which was the date when I ran the script on it to let it fill in all empty translations. You can check this in transifex editor by filtering for strings with date after 2022-09-22 and me as translator. There aren’t any.What the script actually does (independend of whether by whom it is run) is: Filling up empty strings. Non of the already translated strings will ever be touched. These strings will be assigned to the one running the script, as long as they aren’t manually modified by another translator.
Is there a specific string you refer to? Single thing I’ve ever fixed manually in french while transferring the resource from testing area some weeks ago was some line breaks and indentions in the console help message (strings #1 to #19) to make it fit properly into the 80 chr wide console, but without modifying a single word of these entries itself.
Another thing is: Sometimes it might happen a translation set is erroneously assigned to me as translator completely, when it was transferred e.g. from the testing area or it needed to be reuploaded for some other reason. This is a transifex issue, they simply can’t asign its strings to the original translator from the other sub-project or another resource for some reason, everything will be assigned to the person who performed the transfer.
So if you want to have all the french strings assigned correctly to you as translator without modifying them one by one, we can observe the following procedure:
1.) You download the complete translation set in fr and fr_BE „for use” from transifex site.
2.) Let me know once you have stored it safely.
3.) Then I can mass delete all the existing translations of this very resource in these two languages on transifex
4.) You reupload the saved file back to transifex once the strings were cleared.
This way all these translations will be properly assigned to you again. Please let me know whether you’d like to do it this way.I’m not sure what you mean by asking me wheter it could be avoided, since I haven’t touched and wouldn’t touch any of your fine translations anyway.
Best regards

::Dear Robin,
Thank you for the explanations.
Some automatic translations were valid and I did not change anything.
It is not a problem if it is not my name that appears for the translations. Besides, if there are grammatical mistakes, they won’t be able to say that it’s me… Sometimes I notice that there is a spelling or grammar mistake and it is too late to ask anticapitalista to update the translations.

::Dear translators,
Please pay attention to the string 485.
antiX has been translated into Artix.
This is not the same linux distribution.Could a coordinator in Transifex change this string? I see that this is not corrected for Italian, Portuguese, Spanish… I have not reviewed all the languages but I find it annoying.

::Dear Wallon,
great finding, many thanks! That’s google automatic AI translation at its best 🙂 Will fix this in all languages by and bye, along with the other needed fixes of google scramble to make the translation files work technically at all. Google has replaced e.g. <i>…</i> by either <i>…<a>, <i >, < i>, <in> or even <i some text here >… </ >, same goes for line breaks and indention. Some regex can be applied to recover these issues, but most of them need to get fixed manually, since it is unpredictable how it was changed by the google AI. You’d need another AI to fix all this nonsense automatically.
Kind Regards

::Dear Robin,
Thank you very much for your support, it makes me very happy.
Honestly, it’s a shame about Google. How to explain this? How many languages to correct?
antiX should remain antiX especially with all the efforts that the translators make even to translate other programs used by antiX.
Good luck.

::Dear Robin,
For your information, I have installed the program but it does not work.
I did not get any error message during the installation.
The old antiXscreenshot was deleted! I can’t find it with App Select.
So I can’t check my translations.
I don’t understand what the problem is.Kind regards,

::It will be Ok, Wallon, tell us what version of antiX you are running, what .deb you downloaded, did you verify the checksum, and how you installed it?
And post the results of this run from a terminal, please?
ls -la /usr/local/bin/antixscreenshot*It really is a fully featured screenshot program, and can be configured easily for very efficient use.
PS: my example, I have a 64 bit system so downloaded and installed the 64 bit .deb. Note that the newer .deb downloaded today has a capital X in the name…
I added this line to my toolbar file copied from menu-applications:

::Dear Wallon,
First of all:
The old antiXscreenshot was deleted!
No, the installer doesn’t do this. But it was renamed to allow to coexist the two versions using the alternative-setup. So stay calm, please, everything will be fine in the end.
The installer packages have been tested extensively on 32 and 64 bit systems both, on antiX 19, 21 and 22 to work properly. How did you install them? Best is to follow the instructions you’ve translated yourselves in the manual. It was described in the section about installation and uninstallation of the package.
Additionally I’ve already posted above in concern of the most recent 1.08c version:
So just for now download and install one of the 1.08b installer packages (this makes sure all prerequisites are properly in place; without completing these installation steps the script will fail).
After this, upgrade by downloading the 1.08c scriptfile directly, put it into the /usr/local/bin folder, overwriting the previous 1.08b version of antixscreenshot2.This is still valid, in order to get the latest 1.08c version, which includes all the new translatable strings.
Most important on antiX: Did you do an
apt-get update
before starting the package installation?Could you please post the output of the install process, just like BobC did and asked already for? I know you know, the two words “doesn’t work” is by far not what is needed to sort the issue out 🙂
I can’t find it with App Select.
In the “Configure Alternatives” in antiX control center (Section “System”) you will find the setting for the two versions of antiXscreenshot in a group labeled “screenshot” simply. You can easily select manually the version you like to run. (please see attached screenshot)
If the new program refuses to come up, it might easily a broken translation file the culprit. Did you copy your translation already in place? If so, please try starting it with the originally packaged translation file first (then it will not show the help window translated still), or move the translation files /usr/share/locale/fr_BE/LC_MESSAGES/antixscreenshot2.mo and /usr/share/locale/fr/LC_MESSAGES/antixscreenshot2.mo to another place, e.g. by the commands:
sudo mv '/usr/share/locale/fr_BE/LC_MESSAGES/antixscreenshot2.mo' '/usr/share/locale/fr_BE/LC_MESSAGES/antixscreenshot2.mo.bak' sudo mv '/usr/share/locale/fr/LC_MESSAGES/antixscreenshot2.mo' '/usr/share/locale/fr/LC_MESSAGES/antixscreenshot2.mo.bak'Alternatively you can try to start it using the command
LANGUAGE=en_GB.UTF-8 /usr/local/bin/antixscreenshot2
on console. If it comes up then, we need to care for your translation file. Are all your most recent translations on transifex now? Then I’ll download it and recheck the technical aspects of this translation.Kind regards

::Update:
Just tested, on antiX 22 full 32bit, rox-icewm. the translation file .mo created from the most recent transifex translation fr_BE doesn’t prevent the script from coming up. You did a very good job, Wallon! Not even a single mistake in all these difficult to handle tags. So you just need to move these tags around a bit now to make the lines fit properly, many of them exceed line and and wrap around to start of next line, so the indentions are not met any longer.But first we need to get the script started on your machine, so you can see everything yourselves.
If you still have problems starting the script, please check it on a Live USB stick first, and compare the output on console with your findings on the system where it fails for you to come up. Does it produce any messages on console if you call it from there manually?
If it then still doesn’t come up for you we need to do a couple of specific tests what is the reason for this behaviour.
Best Regards

::Wallon, I looked at the spam checking site and don’t see your IP address listed as a spam site for this forum.
Please post what URL you entered at the top of the screen before that error came up? And what were you doing, or did you enter something?
What browser are you running? Is it up to date? on what version of antiX?November 10, 2022 at 9:35 am #92815Member
