::Dear Wallon,
many thanks for your Email containing the needed infos.
This issue actually is very easy to solve probably.When downloading something via Browser from any site, here i.e. gitlab site, it will always get stored with “non executable” permissions set, and with ownership of your own user instead of root. So, please check the output of the command:
ls -l /usr/local/bin/antixscreenshot2expected output:
-rwxr-xr-x …if it comes up with any pattern than this at the very beginning of line, apply the following command:
sudo chmod 755 /usr/local/bin/antixscreenshot2Expected output of an repeated ls -l should be now the same as shown above already, and the next part should read:
… root root …If not, if it reads somewhat different, apply this command now:
sudo chown root:root /usr/local/bin/antixscreenshot2and recheck using ls -l
Thus having set the permissions and ownership properly, the script should start simply by typing the command now:
antixscreenshot2And also the “Print screen” button should work to bring it up immediately.
Btw, when switching between the two scripts in the Alternatives system (either on console or in antiX Control Center) the print button will bring up the selected version always automatically. There should be no need to change any other settings eleswhere.
The same goes for the original console call antiX has used by default: “antixscreenshot.sh”. This command should call now the very script version you have set in the alternatives.
If you want to invoke the original antiX version manually from console without changing the alternatives, just call “antixscreenshot” on console instead.
If you apply the following command on console, you’ll understand from its output how all this works after antXscreenhot2 was installed:
$ ls -l /usr/local/bin | grep antixscreenshot* -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 5442 12. Okt 2021 antixscreenshot -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 181479 8. Nov 23:05 antixscreenshot2 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 28 28. Okt 21:56 antixscreenshot.sh -> /etc/alternatives/screenshotAs you can see, there are three directory entries for screenshot tools now. The original script was moved from “antixscreenshot.sh” to “antixscreenhot”. The new script was placed next to it, “antixscreenhot2”. And finally, the original filename “antixscreenhot.sh” was turned into a symbolic link, pointing to the alternatives selection system, so every program or link in system pointing to the original filename will bring up the alternative you’ve selected now. It is actually that easy.
Best regards

::Dear Wallon,
OK, while writing my elaborated explanations you’ve done the most important part already: Checking the permissions and ownership
`wallon-arrowbase-dell:~
$ ls -la /usr/local/bin/antixscreen*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 5442 12 oct 2021 /usr/local/bin/antixscreenshot
-rw-r–r– 1 root root 181479 10 nov 06:02 /usr/local/bin/antixscreenshot2
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 28 8 nov 18:21 /usr/local/bin/antixscreenshot.sh -> /etc/alternatives/screenshot
wallon-arrowbase-dell:~`As you can see, ownership for the files is fine, but…
Here’s what’s gone wrong:
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 181479 10 nov 06:02 /usr/local/bin/antixscreenshot2it should read instead:
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 181479 10 nov 06:02 /usr/local/bin/antixscreenshot2Change this simply by applying the single command
sudo chmod 755 /usr/local/bin/antixscreenshot2and everything should be fine.
Kind regards

::Dear Wallon,
please, could you head me to an example string? Can’t locate what you describe, since I don’t know for which representation of these characters I should search (there exist a lot of them, mostly looking all the the same nearly, but having different character codes and meanings).I noticed in your file all the quotings like »example« are used the proper German way still, I believe you’d need to replace this by the proper French way « example » which would be just the other way around, and adding a small space in between, if I’m not mistaken. When looking into the Belgian French help screen of antiXscreenshot2, there are some variations of quotings present, so which precise character representation of these is it which doesn’t appear for you? What key did you use for it? If you look into the German help screen (using the .mo file from some postings above) you’ll see even the special quoting: „example” we use here is displayed properly, so I can hardly believe the French qoutings won’t come up as well, if you choose the proper UTF-8 representation for them.
Just a guess: You can’t use the default plain ASCII quoting marks “example”, which are usually found above the 3 key on Belgian keyboards. These can’t work properly, they have special meaning within scripts. Same goes for default high comma (apostrophe) ‘ above the 4. Always use an UTF-8 Representation like ’ for these also, e.g. l’édition instead of l’édition.

Image: Michka_B, CC BY-SA 4.0, via Wikimedia CommonsSimply don’t use the quotings from key 3 and 4. Try the ones from W and X key instead, either « example » or “example”.
Kind regards

::Dear Robin,
There is something wrong with the Transifex files in fr and fr_BE.
If I click on the “Help” button in antixscreenshoot2, the window is empty for both languages.
It looks like there is something corrupted in the Transifex files. I don’t have a copy of my work. How to find the error in the Transifex file?Kind regards,

::It’s OK Robin, I found the error in Transifex.
Instead of putting the code \n<t, I had put the code \n<t to the string 427. The whole file was broken just for one little mistake. I did a visual search of the file string by string. There should be a routine to check for such errors. It would help the translators.November 14, 2022 at 10:07 am #93182Member

::Dear Robin,
The translations of [fr] and [fr_BE] are finished.
I tested both versions by running antixscreenshot2 in a terminal. No errors for both versions.
All string layouts are finalized. There is better but it is really too expensive… in time!
You can update Github for both translations.
Thanks again to you and BobC for the development.Best regards,

I have to congratulate you!
I’m a long way from being able to complete the adjustments to the line breaks of the texts in the Help window. I must have only completed 20% of the pt-BR language and you did it in two languages.– – – – –

Eu tenho que te dar os meus parabéns!
Eu estou muito longe de conseguir concluir os ajustes das quebras de linhas dos textos da janela de Ajuda. Eu devo ter concluído apenas 20% do idioma pt-BR e você fez isso em dois idiomas.November 17, 2022 at 4:14 pm #93414MemberRobin
::Dear Wallon, Marcelocripe and all the other translators.
The translations of [fr] and [fr_BE] are finished.
That’s great news! Many thanks, Wallon, for this huge translation and formatting work you have stemmed. It looks really great.
it is really too expensive… in time!
You are true, but unfortunately I don’t know any other way to get the translations done. The most reliable way seems to be .po files, all other formats which I’ve tried at transifex do actually produce way more trouble when trying to update the translations once a first translation was done. So best for now is to stick to .po translation type, even if it is difficult to handle in this specific case also, but here is GTKdialog the culprit, not the .po file translation or transifex.
I did a visual search of the file string by string.
Yes, I know this is difficult on transifex… If you know a bit about Regular Expressions, you could download the file from transifex for translation, and search it in geany using something like e.g.:
</[^i^b^u]> <[^i^b^u]>as search strings (RegEx search enabled), which will highlight all instances where these patterns are possibly misspelled in some way. This makes ist a bit faster to look them up, but it’s still manual comparison work needed. Then you can fix your findings in the respective strings on transifex, whithout having to stare string by string on this site.
There should be a routine to check for such errors. It would help the translators.
Yes, that would be great. We are longing for this, since all the other languages are waiting to get checked the same way still.
update Github for both translations.
This is done. And more than that: I’ve finally managed to fix the quirks with the overlapping buttons in footer line in languages which need some more words or characters than the original English version. I had to rewrite the complete code for these footer button lines, so it looks a bit different now, not that elegant as the first version. But at least it works properly now in translations also. The gtkdialog thing is hard to convince to display something in the very place you want it to have, constantly it moves something around elsewhere on its own automatically if you change slightly the position of an other element…
Please check Version 1.08d (still no deb installer package). If you have the Program installed already properly, you need only to download the script file and the .mo type translation file(s) and copy them to the places you know already:
Direct Download: antiXscreenshot2 ver. 1.08d (Script file) from gitlab
Direct Download: Belgian French language file ver. 1.08d (.mo type) from gitlab
Direct Download: German language file ver. 1.08d (.mo type) from gitlab
Direct Download: Brasilian Portuguese language file ver. 1.08d (.mo type) from gitlab
Please let me know if something doesn’t work for you with the new 1.08d version.
Many Greetings
