Hi All,
First of all thanks to the Antix team for amazing work!
I’m a prity new user of Antix distro and also I’m a have only besically knowledge of linux it self.
Also I want to said that I spend a lot time to find my problem in google and used all useful tips from this topic: How to search for a solution when you have an antiX problemSo, now about my issue:
I have pretty old machine “HP Compaq DC5800 Microtower” for reanimation (Second Life) and when I trying to boot it with modern Kernel 5.10…. machine totally stuck during boot with Kernel Panic error.
Only if Im booting old Legacy Kernel 4.9.0-326-antix.1-amd64-smp machine booting up and working very well.
I installed last image of AntixX 22 x64-Full but by default it’s booting with modern Kernel 5.10 and its not working for me.
To complete boot I switching to Advanced options and selecting boot with Kernel 4.9.0-326-antix.1-amd64-smp.My question if I can configure Legacy Kernel as default boot option. If its poseble, how can I do it?
I read a lot of info but dident find relevant to me.
For examle here is my GRUB config:# If you change this file, run ‘update-grub’ afterwards to update
# /boot/grub/grub.cfg.
# For full documentation of the options in this file, see:
# info -f grub -n ‘Simple configuration’GRUB_DEFAULT=0
GRUB_TIMEOUT=5
GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`grep PRETTY_NAME /etc/lsb-release | cut -d= -f2 | cut -d\” -f>
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=”quiet”
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=””# Uncomment to enable BadRAM filtering, modify to suit your needs
# This works with Linux (no patch required) and with any kernel that obtains
# the memory map information from GRUB (GNU Mach, kernel of FreeBSD …)
#GRUB_BADRAM=”0x01234567,0xfefefefe,0x89abcdef,0xefefefef”# Uncomment to disable graphical terminal (grub-pc only)
#GRUB_TERMINAL=console# The resolution used on graphical terminal
# note that you can use only modes which your graphic card supports via VBE
# you can see them in real GRUB with the command `vbeinfo’
#GRUB_GFXMODE=640×480I thought I could change boot priority, BUT after I checked my boot possible options I found that I cannot to do so:
User@antix1:~
$ awk -F\’ ‘$1==”menuentry ” {print i++ ” : ” $2}’ /boot/grub/grub.cfg
0 : antiX-22 Grup Yorum
User@antix1:~I also tried some tricks but looks like all changes was not affecting anything….
I confused, and didn’t have enough knowledge to solve it by my self at this point. Maybe someone have idea how to solve this?In a case and its relevan here is my machine config:
$ neofetch

::If You add
GRUB_DISABLE_SUBMENU=y
to your /etc/default/grub , all installed kernels will be displayed on top level of boot menu.If 5.10 doesn’t work at all, simply purge it.

::I found solution by myself 😀
Here is how to do it:
To make poseble GRUB to boot from advenced menu option need to change GRUB_DEFAULT= valeu to “1>1” (including quotes). Keep in mind that GRUB entries begins from “0”.
So, “0” pointing to “antiX-22 Grup Yorum”, “1” pointing to “Advanced optionsfor antiX-22 Grup Yorum”, and “2” pointing to ‘Memory test (memtest86+”.
Afterward “>” and number of line of the boot option. For example “antiX-22 Grup Yorum, with Linux 4.9.0-326-antix.1-amd64-smp” on the second line so its value should be “1” (as in previous menu entries starts with “0”).Here is my GRUB config:
GNU nano 6.4 /etc/default/grub I
# If you change this file, run ‘update-grub’ afterwards to update
# /boot/grub/grub.cfg.
# For full documentation of the options in this file, see:
# info -f grub -n ‘Simple configuration’GRUB_DEFAULT=”1>1″
GRUB_TIMEOUT=15
GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`grep PRETTY_NAME /etc/lsb-release | cut -d= -f2 | cut -d\” -f>
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=”quiet”
#GRUB_GFXMODE=640×480I hope case will be helpful for other users 🙂

::Hello Alextremerus.
Welcome to antiX Linux and the forum.
I don’t know how to write in English and I send my texts translated by the internet translator. I hope you can understand everything, if your native language is not English, please translate my original Brazilian Portuguese text directly into your language with the help of internet translators.
Regardless of your level of knowledge about GNU/Linux, I recommend you to read these excellent tutorials created by @PPC:
What is antiX and how to try it out or install it.
Short essential how-to list for the complete Linux newbie.
How-to install applications – 2020 version.
How to: correctly use antiX forum.When I first started using antiX, I read the tutorials that PPC created, these readings saved me a lot of time and I think it saves time for any new antiX user. Your time will not be wasted with these readings, everything will seem to be much easier than you could imagine. You will not waste your time searching the internet or even creating new topics, on the contrary, you will gain a lot of time with these readings. I recommend you try desktops that have “zzz” in their name. I usually use zzz-IceWM or zzz-JWM or zzz-Fluxbox (each of these workspaces has its own characteristics and consumes more or less resources). zzzFM will be the default file manager on your desktop, it is very similar to other file managers in other GNU/Linux distributions and Windows XP. To access other antiX workspaces, click on Menu, Desktop, Other Desktops and click on the workspace name, instantly the workspace will be loaded.
Whenever you need to request help or technical support in this forum, explain in detail what is happening, do not mince words, be thorough when writing, inform the characteristics of your computer, such as brand and model. If possible, post the result of the command $ inxi -zv7 from the terminal, copy and paste it here in the message of the topic you are going to create in this forum.
When you start a topic or participate with a post, remember to check the option “Notify me of follow-up replies via email”, by checking this option, you will receive a message in your email box whenever there are replies from topic in question.

What is antiX and how to try it out or install it.
Short essential how-to list for the complete Linux newbie.
How-to install applications – 2020 version.
How to: correctly use antiX forum.
