      Hi,

I found on steam community for no sound on my steam games without sound, and my gamepad don’t work… So I contact steam community or steam support for that.

But I found, Proton and Steamplay discussions, and I watch on youtube an video for this. Do you know if this method, is only for run Windows Games on Steam Linux ?

Does we need repos for install that ? Or snap ? Or another solution. I don’t want to try for this time, because my computer is slowly with old hardware. But maybe is good (but non-free).

      $ uname -r
      4.9.212-antix.1-amd64-smp

Man (or Woman, sorry, I don’t know your gender)… you are quite stubborn and keep not following advice given here on the forum, about reading important how-tos on the forum. Just to make it clear for any newbies:
1- DO NOT TRY TO INSTALL SNAPS ON ANTIX– antiX is nor compatible with snaps, that requires systemd, and antiX is a not systemd linux distribution. If you install systemd on antiX you risk breaking the system! (I would say don’t come here asking for help is that happens, but I’m not a moderator 🙂 )
2- DO NOT ADD REPOS – unless you know exactly what you are doing- and for now, you don’t.
First learn the basics about a system, then try more complex stuff– this is a universally good advice, no matter if it’s an OS or anything else on life…
3- If you have Steam correctly installed in your system, it should work as usual- and yes, you can activate Proton using steam’s option – no need to install repos/snaps/or whatever.

The language you used in your post does not make much sense, but I gather that you do not have sound nor a working gamepad on Steam running on antiX – ask for help on Steam forums, or wait to see if someone with more experience on Steam than me can help you out with that.
What “method” are you talking about? No one here can possibly have any idea what your are talking about, so, no data to try to help you out…

Please provide info on your gamepad if so people here can have data to try to help you out with that…

When asking for help on any subject – always provide full information about your problem and the steps you tried to follow to solve it and what the results are… Just saying that your gamepad does not work on steam and asking if a method I guess you saw on you tube works on solving that only results on getting no help at all…

You seem to be a complete newbie and the antiX forum is known for being a very welcoming place, particularly for newbies – but you do not even know how to ask for help properly!?… and keep wanting to do very complex stuff that can break your system WITHOUT reading first essential and easy to follow instructions!

If your English is not good enough to express yourself, please use a on-line translation service, so your posts are more readable- no one can help you if they have no idea what you want…

Edit: also, please create a subject for your thread that directly relates to the subject: the thread’s title is about “trying Proton and Steamplay”, but then you seem to talk about not working sound and gamepad on Steam… By the subject alone, no one can know you are asking for help- you are asking only if someone tried some software, not stating what kind of help you want…

Sorry for the long rant, sorry for using capital letters, but I feel that someone needed to explain you this, to avoid having the forum overwhelmed with useless posts…

        P.

To solve your audio issues and not needing to use apulse for everything, you may consider installing pulseaudio.

          Getting pulseaudio in your system:

          1. Installing pulseaudio:
          Open a terminal and execute
          sudo apt-get install pulseaudio pavucontrol

          2. Make pulseaudio launch on startup
          Edit startuo file
          geany ~/.desktop-session/startup
Add a line that launches pulseaudio

          #launch pulseaudio Daemon on startup
          pulseaudio -D &

          Save and exit

          3. Making volume-icon use pulseaudio (and manage volume and properties)
right-click the volume icon in your systray and click on Preferences.
Have External mixer execute pavucontrol. It originally says:
          External mixer desktop-defaults-run -t alsamixer
          Replace it with:
          External mixer pavucontrol

Reboot your system. From this moment on, you will no longer need to add “apulse” to your commands for any pulseaudio dependent browsers/programs.

If the gamepad worked properly before reinstalling, (after the fixes you followed), then follow the same steps to fix it.

About proton, I have no idea. PPC’s advice is more valuable than mine. I only know that there is a program named “PlayonLinux” that you can install with the package Installer, to play other games not related to linux, but I don’t know if it has integration with steam, sorry.

If possible, read PPC’s articles pinned in the “Tips and tricks” section of the forum. I am sure you can solve much of your future problems the more you understand about linux and antiX.

          Regards.

          antiX Live system enthusiast.
