Just be aware that the apt-mark command will stop updates done via terminal commands.
You should also continue to pin/lock the package in Synaptic in case you do your updates via Synaptic.
From what I gather, Synaptic does not check apt-mark held packages, only its own pinned stuff.

      pinning (via /etc/apt/preferences.d/)
      vs
      sudo apt-mark hold
      vs
      sudo aptitude hold <package-name>
      vs
      Lock Version (synaptic)
      vs
      echo "<package-name> hold" | sudo dpkg --set-selections

I’m not sure the synaptic information is accurate. I can apt-mark hold a package and synaptic will not mark it for upgrade, and marks the package with a little exclamation point in the gui.

apt/dpkg doesn’t check synaptic locks, but synaptic still uses libapt, so apt-mark holds work universally.
