Installed apt-notifier using the Package Installer and uncommented “apt-notifier &” line in ~/.desktop-session/startup.

      ~/.desktop-session/current.log indicates:

      Traceback (most recent call last):
        File "/usr/lib/apt-notifier/modules/apt-notifier.py", line 21, in <module>

ImportError: cannot import name 'spawn' from 'distutils' (/usr/lib/python3.9/distutils/__init__.py)

I’m away from my test antiX 21 virtual machine- it’s probably some kind of problem with apt-notifier, that seems the version being used is not compatible with antiX 21 or requires a dependency that’s not availble…
Please provide some additional info that may help folks here to find out what the problem is:
        – How did you install apt-notifier? Did you use the Package Installer or Synaptic/apt?
        – What version of antiX 21 are you using? 32/64 bit? Full? Runit?

As a GUI workaround, you can use antiX updater to check for updates- it’s not automatic, like apt-notifier, but it runs on a single click…

          python3-distutils

python3-distutils is not shown as a Depends or Recommends. I did install it using apt-get and apt-notifier now works. Thankyou for your help!
