@andyprough – the upgrades are only for sid repo users.
Odd that the OP never once mentioned that. Auto-upgrade on Sid is a horrible idea. I’ve paid very close attention on Sid upgrades, and even with that I’ve still gotten into broken upgrades several times.
Ought this topic get moved to the sid users subforum to avoid general confusion?

Please indicate which package sources are being used.
Provide the output of ‘inxi -r’; that is helpful or alternatively a much fuller output from ‘inxi -zv8’ would provide diagnostic details for the entire system and the repo too.
