I have installed 19.4 onto a laptop with built-in stereo speakers.
However, the volume control icon (bottom right, next to the clock) adjusts Master Mono instead of the Master volume. How do I change this?
Btw, adjusting the audio volume via AlsaMixer works perfectly but is very cumbersome in use.
Right-click the volume icon, click on preferences, and change the device and channel there. Close and it should now manage the volume by what Channel you chose.

Many thanks, Xecure. Your suggestion of the right-click lead to the solution.
The touchpad right-click was disabled by default so I had to manually enable the mouse for righthand usage in order to get it to work.
