Pelucia, Could you give us a quick recap of what it is useful for and what’s needed to make it work, please?

        @ BobC.
Sometimes xdg autostart is better because the enable / disable startup options within the applications work as well as other aspects of the apps that depend on xdg autostart system being there. This is the “standard” for startup of applications.

As the window managers do not support xdg autostart, this is part of desktop-session. Normally all it takes is to edit ~/.desktop-session/desktop-session.conf and change the LOAD_XDG_AUTOSTART= variable/setting from false to true. (LOAD_XDG_AUTOSTART=true). However there is a bug within desktop-session that basically kills the startup execution if there is a file in ~/.config/autostart that needs to be addressed. So the “fix” (workaround) is to have autostart files in /etc/xdg/autostart only.

There is another bug with the quotation when issuing shell commands through a .desktop file in the xdg autostart. (They are truncated and morphed/merged into other startup items)
The work around for this was to place the shell commands in a separate script and call the script in the .desktop file. Though generally shell commands should be placed in a script and the script called in the .desktop file. (or placed in ~/.desktop-session/startup for antiX specifically). I do not think most interpretations for the xdg autostart system in other desktop environments use a full “proper” shell; one like working in a terminal.

Computers are like air conditioners. They work fine until you start opening Windows. ~Author Unknown

Thanks Dave, you answered BobC’s question for me. Also, I think xdg autostart should be enabled by default, disabling it should just be optional. It’s like you said, this is the standard for startup of applications.

Not for window managers it isn’t.

Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.
