I install and use and learn linux for about 4-5 monts.
For this time 😃 I learn a lot, like linux bash cli debian.
I used and learned on my very old ‘lenovo ideapad S12’ – about 14-15 old, widh via nana cpu 😈.
I tested on i5-9300h with nvidia 1650-4g. Resently i install it on Rizen 5 5625U.
I INTALL A LOT OF LINUX on my rizen. And I deside to thanks to ANTIX tean, community, forum, etc…
And here I will thanks to ANTIX tean, but also I will explain why ANTIX IS GREAT.
So first let antiX team take my thanks, and I will write couple articles here, starting with installation process and the core.

      Thanks antiX team!

          The installation and the core.
If yuo tray to install some dstro on old hardware, i mean like very very old, you will find out that there is a problem – acpi error.
And you will think – ok, my laptop is for garbage đŸ—‘ïž not đŸš« to do staff. if you check acpi – this is a battery problem, bumit is not.
At the end, this men your linux core doesn’t recognize the hardware. Yes the core, because obviously in linus the core is one big all-in driver, and not only this. And to make / prepare / compile the core is not so easy task. I mean to prepare a core that will work on every hardware.
And antiX team did it fantastic.
On my very old 14-15 years laptop, only ANTIX hookup.
On very new Rizen 5625U, half ! 50% of distro fails to install. Some distros recognize the hardware only by one flavor, I meen desktop environment. Other completely don’t install. example :
I’ll start with funniest – PClinux fail on recognize the usb stick 😊😊😊 a 256GB kinston, with rw speed of 500 to 1000 Mb/s – 100%-200% SATA3 speed.
Old daddy DEBIAN fail to install with all his flavors. Yep, non of DEBIAN for Rizen 5625U.
Ubunto fails with 2 flavors , but UBUNTU MATE succeed, and is good.
Alma linux succeed, but with some strange video resolurion, li 1024×756 or something like this. And if you start antix from their grub menu – antix start in same resolution and nothing can be changed.
          Fedora succeed. SUSE too.
Manjaro successfully intall, but fail right after this, on very first update, deliting the login manager 😊😊â˜ș. OK, for 4-5 monts experience I discover the problem, Fixed it. But searching solutions I discovered unpleasant face 😈😈 of manjaro / arch community / forum. A guy was searching obviously solution for the very same problem, and there was so many hate posts for him. How to install on manjaro something, downloaded with no internet connection. In this case SYSTEM-D !! block me to do it, by makin internet connection by old fashion ip ipconfig iw . But made it for me 😜😂😜 “when I asked systemD” to do this for me.
And ARTIX (not antix) successfully installed.
In my list remain slax, i steel want debian kde, so any help in this is highly appreciated 👍😁, and debian with propreatory doesn’t successd.
At the end I should try gento 😊😊 .
That’s for today. Remain to say about installation process, but later.

Hi. I almost did not vote – asking this question in a forum about an OS is probably only going to get you positive reviews- considering there are hundreds of Linux Distros out there, if people are highly unpleased with an OS, and they managed to install a Linux Dstro, they will probably just hop to another light distro: there are few light distros, and I consider antiX to be the best full fledged light OS available out there, but there are a few distros based in antiX, like LegacyOS, etc, at least one that is based in antiX and hides that fact, and several unrelated ones (Bhodie Linux is great, although by far not as light as antiX). MX Linux Fluxbox is probably the safest bet for a lightish OS, based on a “major” distro, that uses a Window Manager – it also is not as light as antiX, but can be trimmed, and also allows stuff some people miss (namely systemd, that allows to use snaps, flatpak integration, etc).

I’ve been using antiX for about 7 years now, and it still remains almost as light as the first version I used (16.x) and way easier to use, and much better looking. So, yeah, it’s great.

            P.

KISS is usually a good selling point/argument. If everything hardware works even better.

Depends on end user view point however. KISS is not eye candy and not for everyone.

Being biased myself. I run this distro on most anything. Glad it works out for you.
Shop computer has been running this distro longer than the shop building has been erected.

                Hello arq.baramov.

Welcome to antiX Linux and the Forum.

I don’t know how to write in English and send my texts translated by the internet translator. I hope you can understand everything. If your native language is not English, please translate my original Portuguese language text in Brazil directly into your language with the help of internet translators that you will get a much better result.

Regardless of your level of knowledge about GNU/Linux, I recommend you read these excellent tutorials created by @PPC:

What is antiX and how to try it out or install it.
Short essential how-to list for the complete Linux newbie.
                How-to install applications – 2020 version.
How to: correctly use antiX forum.

When I started using Antix, I read the tutorials that the PPC created, these readings spared me a lot of my time and I think it saves the time of any new Antix user. Your time will not be lost with these readings, it will seem to be much easier than you could imagine. You will not waste your time with internet searches or even create new topics, on the contrary, you will earn a lot of time from these readings. I recommend you try the work areas that have “ZZZ” in your name. I usually use the “ZZZ-Icewm” or “ZZZ-JWM” or “ZZZ-Fluxbox” (each of these work areas have their own characteristics and consume more or less resources). ZZZFM will be the default file manager in your desktop, it is very similar to other file managers from other GNU/Linux distributions and Windows XP. To access the other Antix work areas, click the Antix menu (or right -click), desktop, switch between desktops and click on the work area name, instantly to desktop will be loaded.

In the Portuguese language area of this forum, there are several tutorials that may be useful for you . Use an automatic translator from the internet so you can understand the text.

Whenever you need to request technical help or support in this forum, explain in detail what is happening, do not save the words, be thorough when writing, enter the characteristics of your computer, such as the brand and the model. If possible, post the result of the command $ Inxi -zv7 of the terminal, copy and paste here in the message of the topic you create in this forum.

When you start a topic or participate with a post, remember to check the option “Notify Me of Follow-Up Replies via email”, marking this option, you will receive a message in your email box whenever there are answers from topic in question.

Computers that are 15 years old for me are considered new, I restore computers that are over 20 years old, thanks to antiX.

What is antiX and how to try it out or install it.
Short essential how-to list for the complete Linux newbie.
                How-to install applications – 2020 version.
How to: correctly use antiX forum.

                        The partition installation.
When things come to partitioning, or to how and where to install linux. what partition where to put(mount 😉 ) , ANTIX really shine.
Yes, making things in table form, with predefined paths needed for installation, is the best solution!!!
Does it have place for improvement – yes, very small, something like a scheme what where to have, just for dummers, and for very beginners.
But let me share my opinion about other installers in this field – partitions.
Some of the installers like 4 fedora, alma, mandjaro, are like a dummy kid. You select a partition, you add a name / mounting point, you pick format or not, and you add it, and it dessapear 🙂 .
Or in debians – it just not let you even pick a place / drive to mount home folder separately.
And all of them INSIST to format the swap partition, which happened to be formatted, just a frendly remark, don’t alow reformat of swap, or you have to go through all installed distros, and have to edit the /etc/fstab
This is it – if you want a linux, and you want to NOT REFORMAT your disk, or delete some data, you must start with ANTIX.
Everything else is to go on the roads with traps.
