      Hi! 🙂

      I want to change by background color from bright white, to something less hard for my eyes (eg. a soft gray maybe).
      However, LXAppearance informs me that lxsession is not running. so…bad luck! 🙁
      Now what??? 🙂

      Is there any system-wide setting, or I have to find applications (file manager, text editor etc), with option for that specific setting?

        LX Appearance > Choose a different Widget > Apply.
        I am not able to change individual colors either, but I can change different GTK themes for widgets. Try using Clearlook, Thinice or a dark theme.
        You can also find more GTK themes in:
        gnome-look.org under gtk2 and gtk3
