Background image issues (SOLVED)

Hello everyone … I am new to antiX and have been having problems with the desktop background image …. I realized that every time I restart the system the image does not remain saved …. and consequently none has worked. … can someone help me to solve this please?

Hi, You’re going to need to provide more info. What download version are you running and are you running it live or installed would be necessary to know?

I saw on your other post that you are new to linux, but that should be ok. Everyone was new once. Anyway, at the top of the main menu (assuming you are running an IceWM desktop) there is an option for Terminal. Run that and then maximize the window. Then at the $ prompt type or copy/paste in
inxi -Fxz
and press Enter

Select and copy the output, and paste it in as CODE here.

I don’t actually know the answer for you, but whoever looks into it will need to know that to get started… The other thing that would help would be to know what you set it to. I’m assuming you used the Control Centre, Desktop, Choose Wallpaper option or equivalent Menu option to change it. You could go back to that screen and take a screenshot and paste in a picture of that.

I really tried to change the background image through the control center ….. I put the image in the same folder as the system background images and it still didn’t work …. I don’t know what may be happening … . Thank you very much in advance

ok, first, I wonder if your software is all up to date, since I see the wallpaper package was updated recently.

You need to be already connected to the internet. I’m assuming you haven’t modified anything else.

There are many ways to do this, but the easiest to explain is to do it from a terminal. Copy/paste this in and press enter
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

If there is anything that needs updated, it will ask your permission. That will get your software up to date.

I had asked you to post a picture of the screen you were using to change the wallpaper. After you do the update/upgrade go into that screen and try to do that.

Something you should understan is that generally speaking, unless you really know what you are doing changing the system, you should try to limit your changes to things under the /home directory. In this case, if you want to add a new wallpaper, you might put it in /home/yourusername/Pictures. You can use the file manager to put it there. The next thing is to change the folder where it looks for wallpaper to there, and then select that wallpaper and apply.

Oddly enough, the Wallpaper screen didn’t come up on my test installed system. I see another thread where someone is having wallpaper problems. I think you should watch that thread to see when it is fixed, and then try again.

PS: once they get it fixed, the command above will install the fixes.

I think as of this morning, the current code is working. I tried putting a different pic in my /home/bobc/Pictures directory, and using the control centre, making that the default directory, and changing that pic to be the background, and it did work.

I suggest trying the update/upgrade above and then try changing the background wallpaper again. If it doesn’t work let us know, and if it does, please add solved to the thread subject.

The package wallpaper-antix was modified when I performed a package update today. It hadn’t been more than a few days (at most) since my previous update. Though I didn’t encounter any problems in my own use of backgrounds, I didn’t change any backgrounds in the past month or more, so it probably wouldn’t have affected me.

It appears that there may have been an accidental regression affecting the wallpaper-antix packaging (whether the regression was IN that package or inadvertently changed something that is used by wallpaper-antix. In any case, it appears to be fixed.

For those who have been experiencing recent issues with your system, update the package, try again and see if the problem has been properly resolved. If there are any use cases still causing a problem, please let us know and we’ll get information from you and make sure it’s fixed. I do, however BELIEVE that it HAS been fixed.

Hello guys …. I was able to solve through the solutions presented by you ….. I updated the system through the posted commands and soon I was able to place the background image correctly through the control center.
