I’ve looked around for this, maybe I’m not searching right but it find it REALLY hard to grab the corners of windows to drag (lower right for example). It seems like I have to be pixel perfect and grab a single pixel for the drag icon to appear.
Is there a way to broaden the range the pointer has to be in to grab the corners of windows?
Many thanks. It’s super frustrating.

::In fluxbox it is even smaller, the “grab” margins.
I recommend you instead use the Alt key to perform window move and resize operations.

::me too (have a hard time grabbing the corners)
FWIW, the issue not specific to iceWM. It is attributable to the active GTK theme.
You can launch “lxappearance” and browse/select a theme configured to use a wider border
or
visit opendesktop.org and browse/install some other theme, more suited to your liking.^—-v

::I also had that problem, so in the new antiX Magic IceWM themes I made the corners defined much larger for easy grabbing and resizing.
If anyone else would try it to confirm…
PS: If this solves it, and anticapitalista would like me to, I could try to apply the same logic to other antiX standard themes.

How exactly did you do it?

::They are controlled by settings in the theme files. I increased the thickness.
There is an IceWM theme manual with the details.
Ps… if you dont mind, did using the antiX Magic theme improve the corners?

::I’m on my computer now, so, I looked at my large theme and see:
CornerSizeX=30 CornerSizeY=30Take a look in the .theme `file and see what settings you find.
I would recommend working on copy of the theme with a different name in your ~/.icewm/themes directory if possible

I did try another theme, and that did help, though I like the blue theme that Antix ships with so I think I’m going to go back to that and increase the corner size.

As BobC + Xecure have pointed out, the window manager theming, not gtk theme, controls the window borders.

::Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but setting the theme CornerSizeX and CornerSizeY to 30 didn’t help much for me. They increased the distance from the corner that I could set down the cursor for dragging. However, the cursor still has to be precisely on the window border, and that’s touchy.
Increasing the BorderSizeX and BorderSizeY from 3 to 6 or 10 helps, but then the thick borders look clunky.
I know you should never mention your previous relationships to your current significant other, but I’ve used Puppy for many years, and I’m used to a grab-able lower right corner that’s clearly marked with diagonal lines. Just click anywhere in the diagonal lines and drag. Works great.
I don’t insist on the diagonal lines, but it would be nice to have a similar triangular-shaped dragging area there.
Otherwise, Icewm is great.
Any suggestions? Thanks!

::Hi ahoppin,
using a BobC thin scheme I go even near to the bottom right corner, several mm away already the cursor changes shape and I can resize.
As nobody, (I help a number of users) has complained just left things as is. I think the most probable reason is that both for myself and for users most used applications are opened to a set desktop, position and size automagicaly. We do the rest with the tiling keys.
Login to ICEWM, Start opens for example claws on desktop 1 sized to half screen left and checks servers for new mail. palemoon opens on desktop 2 sized and centered, ready to use. Start office applications Desktop 3 Calc 4 Writer again sized and placed ready for work.In the net there is a seemingly unending number of themes available, probably one with a stippled or lined corner somewhere among them.
For the bottom right corner grabbing You might try following, they are from a very recent icewm preferences file with the antiX keys setup incorporated. Should you wish to add them do so near end of file as last read is respected during icewm start. Remove the # to activate
# Resize corner width.
# CornerSizeX=24 # [0-64]# Resize corner height.
# CornerSizeY=24 # [0-64]March 16, 2022 at 10:14 am #79168Memberahoppin
::Thanks, Moddit. I apologize if it seems as if I’m complaining. I don’t mean to be critical, or to cause anyone grief!
As I said above, I’ve already set CornerSizeX and CornerSizeY, both to 30, and it wasn’t of much help.
The problem is that CornerSizeX and CornerSizeY don’t seem to define a region. Rather they extend the window corner further along the window borders. So one still has to place the cursor on a border only 3 pixels wide, and keep it there while clicking.
If the current setup is satisfactory to the majority of users, then it’s on me to find a solution for this on my own.
Thanks again.
