Basic question on base, core etc…

All,
I am trying to create a linux version on a small x86 module to use as an audio server.

I downloaded the base and loaded it on both the SD card thinking it was an iso ready to go but when I boot it looks for linux on CD/USB.

So then I put it on a USB Stick thinking maybe it’s an installer and I get the same message.

I don’t need graphics, only SSH from my host system to configure it. So which distro should I be using and how to install it?

If you don’t want a GUI then use Core, that will give you a text based system.

All the versions are ‘live/installable’, so you will want to install it to your disk.

Boot up the ‘live’ system & use its installer program.

(To use the Net version, you will need a network connection, & it is only the very basics.)

Probably need to specify a boot parameter for the SD card. I can not recall at the moment what is was though… Maybe from= or bdev= (boot dev)
