      Hello everybody!

      I just installed antix21 on a lenovo T60; All sounds are working just out of the box.
      Then i installed beep (beep 1.4.9) but e.g beep -l 200 -f 1000
      gives this error message:

      $ beep: Error: Could not open any device

      beep --debug
      gives

      beep: Verbose: evdev driver_detect 0x46c6e0 (nil)
      beep: Verbose: b-lib: could not stat(2) /dev/input/by-path/platform-pcspkr-event-spkr: No such file or directory
      beep: Verbose: console driver_detect 0x46c6a0 (nil)
      beep: Verbose: b-lib: could not open(2) /dev/tty0: Permission denied
      beep: Verbose: b-lib: could not stat(2) /dev/vc/0: No such file or directory
      beep: Error: Could not open any device

      $ tput bel

      stays silent;
      Playing a mp4-video using VLC or MPV works fine.

      $ sudo tput bel

      stays silent as well…

      Thanks for your help.

        Hi indigo51, the pcspkr module is blacklisted per default on antiX in /etc/modprobe.d/pc-speaker.conf

        It’s also possible the beep is muted in alsamixer.

          Hello caprea,
          Solved by your proposal.
          Commenting # blacklist pcspkr in /etc/modprobe.d/pc-speaker.conf
          and running sudo modprobe -a snd-pcsp pcspkr did the trick.

          beep works, tput bel works as well.

          Thanks a lot!

          (I’m afraid i posted this question in the wrong forum… feel free to move it to a better place…)
