::PPC, the quick tests I did on the “icewm-toolbar-icon-manager-v2023-python3and2-fin51.zip” version were all successful. I think these new versions boot about 20% of the time it takes the version present in antiX 22 full 64-bit SysVinit. It would be nice if more people helped with the tests to try to identify something that needs to be improved or fixed.
Thanks.

Obrigado.

::@anticapitalista – it seems the latest version of the script I proposed has only been tested by 3 people. I suggest, that we wait for the week end, and after that, if no problem was found with this version, I guess you can update the version of the script that’s in the Repository. The speed gain, small fixes and fixes in the localization of the script, and the way it looks, merit the bump in version…
Off topic, but I also suggest, if possible (and if you want to include it, of course), that the Dev team (not sure who does that) puts the newest version of antiX-updater up for localization, so it can be included in antiX as soon as possible. It would benefit many users that are confused by the update process…

::@PPC: I have been able to check every option but I have not selected every application desktop entry, so I have covered the primary interface, just not all choices.
I’ll try to help some more as time permits and possibly even check with 21/22 and 23 Alpha.
More to come hopefully today.

::@PPC: I’m going through the adding and removing of each desktop item. When I got down to the ADSL/PPPOE Configuration, this item added fine, but did not get removed with the – REMOVE ICON feature, the item did not remove; instead it responded “No changes were made! TIP: You can always try the Advanced button.”. I did use the Advanced button, which brought me into the Geany IDE with the ~/.icewm/toolbar file, where I removed the option and restarted IceWM to see the removed change.

::I’ve tested quite a few application selections and a couple of screensavers. When a screensaver is selected and run, the process has to be found, stopped or killed, and then the previous backdrop or wallpaper has to be reactivated because the last video image active in the screensaver overwrites the wallpaper.
Removing the icon from the taskbar does not perform these steps, so they have to be done manually.
As far as the list, I completed testing all app entries (except the screensavers) through items beginning with C, and a couple more.
I’ll try to get a few more in before I stop today.--

::I’ve made it through the applications up to F, and I have just a couple more left and I’ll have added, removed, and started the apps a-f, and a couple screensavers. Unless I share anything else, I’ve noted any quirks or defects that I’ve spotted through the f apps.

::When the feh application is added, it does not work.
I checked the Advanced settings to look at the toolbar and it looks like this –
prog "Feh " /usr/share/icons/papirus-antix/24x24/apps/image-viewer.png fehThis is incorrect. I changed to
prog "Feh" /usr/share/icons/papirus-antix/24x24/apps/image-viewer.png feh
and IceWM is restarted, then it still does not work. Adding /usr/bin/feh and /usr/bin/feh “%f” didn’t help either.I did notice that if you attempt to run feh from the command line and do not provide a file, it looks in the current directory for images it can run.
If there are not any, it reports what it tried and ends. If stdout is not shown, this is not seen.
If you run feh from the command line and provide an image, THEN it works.- This reply was modified 2 months, 3 weeks ago by Brian Masinick.

::@”The Mas” – thanks for the extensive testing- you found a bug on T.I.M.- since it used the sed command that uses / as divider, the script did not correctly handle strings of text inserted in the toolbar file that included that character- like, you guessed it ” ADSL/PPPOE Configuration”.
I now use a different way of removing lines from the toolbar file that contain the same “application name” as the user selected, that can handle / .
The problem with feh and the screen savers is exactly what you described- they are not exactly meant to be run from a menu or toolbar, for example, in feh’s case, it displays the first file on the folder it’s summoned from (not sure what’s reported as being the current folder when it’s called from the menu/toolbar).
Ideally, T.I.M. should not display .desktop files that are set not to be displayed in the menu, like “feh”, etc… I’ll try to work that in a future version. For now, I solved the problem with icons that have names with “/” not being correctly removed.Know bug- because of the same problem that I solved when removing entries, for now, icons that refere to apps that have “/” on their names can’t be moved using TIM- just inserted or deleted… Work-around: move the adjacent icon(s) instead… For now it’s probably best to move that particular line by hand, and not using the GUI… I’ll try to also solve this bug, but “moving” icons it’s not a feature that people use that much and is a pain to implement…

::… And if this pans out, I think the bug of moving icons that refere to apps that include / on the name is solved… Please test, everyone… I need a break.

::Thank you very much PPC, for all your efforts and passion that you put into each application, take your well deserved break.
And also thank you Brian, for your help and intensive testing.IceWM TIM is running faster now and it seems all previous bugs are fixed in the latest version (fin53) .Here a new problem appeared unfortunately. If choosing “Remove icon” and then nothing get’s selected, but click on the button “remove” or even just close the window, all icons will get removed.

::Comments on the fin53 update:
1) Overall performance and appearance is very good, and you were successful with many additional improvements.
2) For me, feh still doesn’t do anything at all when I click the feh icon.
3) The Search functions are using gears: Search MX Forums works fine except for the gear icon; a couple of the search features use the gear icon.
Suggestion: The icon used in “Search Bar” looks pretty good; for any search features without their own icon, that one looks good.
4) Along those lines, though there are lots of search options, the “Search Bar” option seems to include most, if not all of them.
Might be worth getting more feedback, but a trim back to simply provide “Search Bar” with the various options is worth consideration.I’m being a bit “picky” here; I’m just trying to give feedback on what makes sense and keeps things neat and clean. I love what you’ve done with this and you deserve many thanks and appreciation for all of this, and I’m more than happy to go along with the community preferences.

::Thanks for the support and feedback!
For now, I just fixed the bug, when nothing was chosen to be removed- it should work fine now…
Many thanks for the ideas, Mr Masinick – but for now, this script seems to be bug free- it took some work to produce this version, so, for now, it’s on “feature freeze”- I’ll probably just try fixing any bug that pops out (I hope none appears, but if it does, please report it here)…Attachments:

::After resting for a while I tried to implement a feature that only allows one intance of the script at a time (to avoid distracted users opening several windows). In fact, the script lists all open windows and, if it finds it’s own title on that list, refuses to open a new instance (just focus on the previous window and exits).
If you like that tiny extra functionality, it’s the single change I implemented.
@anticapitalista – I think that the “Help” section is not needed any more – since users select applications by name, not selecting their .desktop files. If you agree with that (and do want to upgrade the version that’s included in antiX), that change it’s just one line deletion away (on the final section of the script, the line with the help button- just delete it, if you want).
If no bugs are reported, I think it’s safe to use version 6.1
Edit: I do not recommend the attached version
NOTE: The script tests if a window with “Toolbar Icon Manager” is running. IF you, for example, have this browser window open, since the title includes the string, the script won’t launch… I’m trying to find a way around that…P.
