fungalnet suggested motorcycle and bicycle, maybe E Bicycle and motorcycle are good partners, not too sure on pure muscle (or relative lack of it) powered.
Where to start, well after about 68 years i still ride around for fun and exercise, mostly my favorite vintage hardtail MTB,
“inxi” = aluminum frame unknown manufacturer hand polished by me, (took ages) Fork Rock Shocks Judy Race. Sunn USA rims, Deore LX hubs, Ritchy Tires. Avid V Brakes, White Industrys Cranks (made by Sugino), Sugino Chainrings, XT,
Deore LX shifting, Gripshift because light and cheap on carbon Handlebar,
Chris King Headset. Rest cheap and cheerful from partsbin. 8 Kilos and could knock it down to about 7.5, it is fun.Longest owned Eddy Merckx, frame is from middle to end 80 s. Columbus Tubes, Flat fork crown, cable eyes top of top tube. Mostly Campa record, rear shifting and brakes Super record. 3T Stem and bars. Concor saddle. Look period pedals. Mavic GP4 Rims, Tubular tyres. Optional Mavic rims and High Pressure Tyres which are non period but somewhat cheaper, and no glue. Anyone who has prepared race rims and glued on tyres knows it is a labour of love and hate.
If I wrote about my other bikes would bore everybody except bike experts. I have some pretty lovely bikes, nearly all hand made frames, mostly lugged steel construction. Mostly ready to ride but some to rebuild.
Anybody else so crazy welcome to bike nuts thread

Getting too hot down here for day riding though lately.

::Hi Roky thanks for pointing to the somewhat older bike thread.
I can put up a few pics sometime soon.
Read on wrenching out stuff like pedals, for both stuck seat pins and pedals I use cycles of freezing and boiling water, seat posts are really hard to remove from steel frames if not greased and bike left in rain, a torch is ok on steel cranks if not too much heat is applied.
I still read about the bikes sometimes available on CraigsList, here prices can be pretty high, especially if you want components that will not let you down, last for many years of hard use and want a frame size to fit. Real classics are not easy to get in good condition for a fair price, or to get that way.
Luckily most Germans ride bikes with a much too large frame. I am now after age shrinkage and broken vertebrae from accidents somewhere around 6 foot so not quite so difficult.
For tall younger persons UK frame builders can offer custom build steel tubed and lugged construction for nearly any usage case. These frames will last a human lifetime if looked after, longer and can be repaired or modified, repainted. If you buy second hand be wary around Reynolds 531, 753, these tubes tend to rust inside the frame, you may then experience cracking or breakage which is in case of fork really dangerous.
Get some car under body wax, thin it down and coat tubes inside, Best on a HOT day in the sun, drain or suck out out excess wax for rust stop and prevention. The frame should feel really warm to hands, be careful not to damage paint, I use mostly use plenty of heat to thin the wax, it should get watery for maximum penetration, petroleum or turpentine can be added in small amounts if needed. Good method for cars and motorcycles too, especially in non desert areas or where road salt is encountered. Used to be called Ziebart treatment in USA. I was trained and applied that stuff to Alfa Romeo cars at a dealership years ago. The untreated ones rusted fast and furious, some treated as new are still being used by collectors. Wish I had bought an Auto Delta tuned Alfasud those days, the prices are crazy now.One tip for all on bicycle chains, completely de-grease them then gently boil in a mix of paraffin candle wax Molybedenum Disulfide and Teflon micro Powder, use a quicklink for easy removal. Drain then wipe off excess wax before it hardens. Do that and you have the lightest running chain possible (stiff at first because of wax excess). Dirt and sand does not stick and wear your components or mess up clothing either. I re wax depending on usage, maybe about 100 to 300 Kilometers. Use a good chain like KMC or Sram, they last for years of high mileage.
Teflon powder is now pretty easy to get on e bay, High Moly anti seize paste and a box of cheap candles then you are good for years of lubrication.May 17, 2020 at 7:13 am #36022Forum Admin

::My son appears to have thrown away my Schwinn LeTour and Schwinn Collegiate. I saw them outside the backyard shed last weekend, but they aren’t there now. They both needed new tires and tubes and rubber components. Because of those issues, I bought a rebuilt Trek last year, which I ride as often as I get time/energy. Kids don’t seem to understand those old things were built well and have value, and he probably just threw them to the curb for scavengers.
