      Hi everybody,

just now, I did an update of my testing box. After reboot, I have a blank screen.
The system is running up. But X or icewm did not start.
With C-A-F1 I can switch to another login screen.

I am on a boot stick right now.

This is the first time happening to me. So, I will need help.

      regards

Information about your hardware would be helpful, especially if you have a nvidia-card and then which driver you use for it.
Maybe post an inxi -zv7 from the live stick.
Can you reach from your live-stick the file /var/log/apt/history.log from the installed, broken system and post it here?

From the login-screen of C-A-F1 did you try startx ?

          Are haveged and consolekit installed?

Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

Thank you for the quick reply.
I am currently on a stick of a different distro (embarrassed).

But here is an inxi -v8 from an ealier topic in this forum. May be this will help already.

From the login-screen of C-A-F1 did you try startx ?

startx did not start, but sudo startx

Now, I am into antiX. But in a very strange situation.
icewm panel is here. Mouse is working.
But no desktop, no conky, no tray on the right bottom.
slimjet and ff did not start, but palemoon did.
When I tried to switch to xxxjwm, I am thrown back to console.

                  Are haveged and consolekit installed?

I have not installed it. At least not on purpose.
It was a 64 bit full install of antiX 17.

                      Are haveged and consolekit installed?

I have not installed it. At least not on purpose.
It was a 64 bit full install of antiX 17.

They may have got removed when you upgraded via testing repos.

Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

There are several strange things in the system:

                              – above it says that several packages could not be installed, that means that you have requested for an impossible situation, or, if you are running unstable, that some needed packages are still not created.
(my translation; original English is likely to have different wording)
                              Following packages have unsolved dependencies:
                              dconf………………
E: Error: Interruption caused by pkgProblemResolver::Resolve invoked; this could be because of held back packages.

                              – synaptic was uninstalled during last update. I tried to reinstall it. Got the message it depends on policykit-1 and policykit-1 depends on libpam-systemd

                              – somehow, the system has set me to Vietnamese repo.

I will check the other things tomorrow.
                              Kali Nichta!

Maybe the Greek repo is behind the default antiX one (Canada).
Try with the default antiX repo.(it has a nosystemd policykit-1 set of debs)

Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

Also on the third screenshot and in your inxi-r from above it looks like your antix.list looks like this

deb http://ftp.cc.uoc.gr/mirrors/linux/mx/antix testing main nosystemd nonfree

                                  But should look like this
deb http://ftp.cc.uoc.gr/mirrors/linux/mx/antix/testing/ testing main nosystemd nonfree

You have to change this manually(edit as root) in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/antix.list
