I was presented with a JBL Go3 speaker which works wonderfully well with my Samsung Android phone. I was also able to pair it with my laptop which is running antiX 21 Grup Yorum but unfortunately I get no sound. When I go to Auto connect profiles on JBL Go3 I get an error message: Failed to connect Protocol not available.

I’ve googled for a solution but failed to find one to make it work. Will appreciate any help you can provide with this issue. Thanks.

Hi, please provide more information, especially about your HW, e.g. ‘inxi -Fxz’ is the typical desired output.

        1) antiX 21 full/base/…, 32/64-bit?
        2) Is pulseaudio installed (and running)?
        3) Please also post output of the below command (‘dpkg -l’ = list packages; grep … = select only those installed ‘ii’ and containing string ‘blue’):
        dpkg -l | grep -i '^ii[ ]*blue*'
        4) It would be good to mention what you have already tried not to repeat the same suggestions…
        5) Did you try to search (and apply advises) from topics on antiX forum?
        The search https://www.antixforum.com/forums/search/bluetooth/ reveals e.g.:
https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/broken-packages-related-to-bluetooth/ <– Look at this one, it contains practically the same error!

Yes, for sound transmission over bluetooth the installation of pulseaudio and also pulseaudio-module-bluetooth is needed.

pulseaudio is alrady installed (otherwise Firefox would not get sound):

pulseaudio is already the newest version (14.2-2.0nosystemd1).
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
            gir1.2-gexiv2-0.10 libenca0 libesd0 libglib1.2ldbl libgtk1.2
            libgtk1.2-common libopusfile0 librcc0 librcd0 libsidutils0 libstfl0 libtagc0
            libtorrent21 libxmlrpc-core-c3
Use ‘sudo apt autoremove’ to remove them.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 133 not upgraded.

I did not remove those non-required packages. Should I do it?

When trying to install pulseaudio-module-bluetooth I get the following error messages:

Please change the repos with the repo-manager from control-centre.
Afterwards update the system and try again.

The repository is currently down, please follow caprea’s advice and (temporarily) switch to another repository and try to install again.
When I run ‘apt’ (updates/installations) from command-line, it does not remove the no-longer needed packages.
I usually remove them (after a while) to free some space.
If you are unsure, keep them or write down (copy & paste) the to-be-removed packages to a file in order to be able to install them again in the unlikely case something goes wrong.

I switched to London UK repository and was able to install pulseaudio-module-bluetooth. Now the error message reads: “Host is down”. Look like some progress was indeed achieved but not yet sound is coming. FYI here’s the Blueman output:

Hi, I do not use bluetooth.
Thus I can only suggest to search the forum or internet (‘Debian bluetooth “Host is down”‘), once again.
This provides some search results, e.g.

The error message Connection failed:Host is down
I do get when eg. the box is off, not reachable
What might worth a try is to delete the box from blueman-manager and set it up completely again.
                      Otherwise your output looks normal.

I removed the device JBL Go 3 from the list and det it up again. Now, instead of a error, I get a message “Connected to Auto connect profiles on JBL Go 3”. However, still no sound is coming. I tried with YouTube and Audacious (with music lists I have there). The Blueman info output is exactly the same except now connected is “yes”.

In the Blutooth Devices JBL Go 3 has three small iconsat the right. All three report “Connected” and Received Signal Strength 42%, 39% and 50%. The second one is
                        reported as Sub-Optimal.

How do I remove the box from blueman-manager? It appears now it would not be necessary, but anyhow I’d like to know how to do that. Thanks.
