      HI!

      I’m a french newcomer here.
I use Linux since 2008, but it’s my first time with a distro that is NOT an ubuntu based ! Yeeha!

I’ve chosen Antix to make my old Eeepc run again. And I’m so surprised!! It’s perfect <3

Hope I’ll handle it properly, for its ergonomy is brand new to me!!

PS : As usual, please forgive any mistakes. I try my best in english, but I know I have many things to improve 😉

      Eeepc 901 : Antix 19.4
      2 x PC : Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
Laptop : Windows 10 (aaaagh, waiting to be allowed to remove this!!)
Another laptop to be saved (Ram and CMOS quite dying).
Acer Iconia 8 tab to save with some distro. I'm still looking for my solution.

        Hello, and welcome!

antiX Linux is very lightweight, but also not so easy to use compared to Ubuntu. Let us know if you see something going worng or you cannot figure out how to do.

You may find it interesting to read these introductory articles:

And don’t worry about using proper English. Many of us here aren’t native English speakers, so as long as we can communicate a bit we should be able to help out.

Welcome to the forum and global village of antixia. Please do not worry about language, as xecure wrote we find a way to communicate.

AntiX and ubuntu are both based on debian, not as far apart as some may think, apart fron the fact buntu uses desktops,
antiX window managers. I intensly disliked buntu though, especially with gnome desktop.

            Wow Thanks Xecure!
These two topics are totally what I need to discover AntIX! I’m so “Ubuntu” ready, and AntiX is so deep to discover. Many different things and diferent ways. Somehow, it reminds me BodhiLinux. And I’m planning to make another old eeepc1001 run with AntiX XD for now, i’m convinced, even if I feel I’ve missed many details!

Moddit, you dislike ubuntu so much? Why? True that trying gnome made me… willing to try something else XDDD
But I can say that Lubuntu convinced me to try seriously linux, and now, I just can’t go back to windows or mac. Even if I have to use terminal to debug something XD (actually i love it, but I’m much more a python scientific programmer than a system programmer).

            Thanks for the welcome !

The secret to antiX is to install and spend an entire day without opening a browser !
Look at every single package, setting,desktops/window managers themes for a whole day.Maybe 2.
Then, and only then, you will begin to understand how powerful it really is.

Welcome! I agree with LikkMii. Look around the menus and Control Centre and click on each program. Use the LiveUSB system and if something goes wrong you can just start over. Once you know how you want to set it up to meet your own tastes then you can install it. If you use the Persistence features of the LiveUSB your install will be mostly done.

                      Hello world!

Glad to mee so many different people here!

I chcked it Marcelo 😉 Thanks! I was looking at i at the bottom of the page… but he, it was at the beginning! XD

But actually… LikMii I ust tell you that two days are way not enough XDDD
I try it step by step, from time to time, in every free moments.

Just to say, I’m not even sure if I prefer the ICE or JWM desktop!
I think I’ll keep Rox, even if it gave me some fears when I understood that it does not use the garbage feature to delete file. With Rox, No come back! Hopefully I do my tests with useless files.

It’s quite an experience this distro, and I think that it is doesnt deserve to stay unknown ! It must spread! I found it with distro watch!! No other sites tod me about it, and I can say that I’ve looked deep to find the lightest distro I can.
My sumer will be spent in Antix exploration. I’m pretty sure of this 🙂

Thanks for the greetings, I’ll be back in some other topics, for my first questions are shaping theirselves in my mind…

From what I’ve seen, antiX is very efficient compared to any of the buntu flavors. They are good systems, but slow on older machines.

With antiX, I’d just suggest trying the things you use frequently first, and learn how to add those to the toolbar.

It only takes one click to run a program from the toolbar.

Al-X, in addition to IceWM and JWM, antiX has Fluxbox, maybe if you like the speed and the solution created by @PPC Toolbar for Min-Fluxbox with Tint2:
