High there,
Antix live boots fast and runs fine. After installation and booting Antix with the default V5.10.x kernel, only a dark screen with blinking cursor is shown.
This lasts for more than 4 minutes, after which Antix starts running fine.
When selecting the 4.9.x kernel from the Advanced boot menu, Antix boots insanely fast within 15 seconds on my old Toshiba laptop!
I will upload the dmesg output in two separate attachments for the 4.9.x and 5.10.x kernels.
Note: MX Linux 21 (XFCE) runs fine out of the box on the same laptop.Inxy:

::If the 4.9 kernel works well ie all your hardware is functioning then just use that.
There are some posts in the forum where some laptops seem not to boot the 5.10 kernel to desktop (or even at all).
One ‘fix’ was to remove the quiet and/or any vga=xxx ‘cheats’ at the boot menuPhilosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.
antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

::Yeah, I was going crazy with a similar issue. I finally got 2-3 of the 5.10 kernels to boot; even with great care I still usually have to boot a 4.9 kernel first to get around whatever the strange defect is in that kernel release.
Debian in particular has multiple defects against the 5.10 kernel. The crazy part is that it only affects certain systems; if you really want to experiment try a very verbose boot mode, don’t use the framebuffer (add nofb) and if even that doesn’t work, try S nofb and noquiet to see how far you get.
But unless you have the time to figure it out I’d personally just use either a newer or older kernel, avoiding the 5.10 kernel altogether. That’s finally what I did.

::Thanks for the useful information.
With the Package installer it was easy to remove the 5.10.x kernel.
The laptop boots antiX v4.9.x by default in about 15 seconds and that is very much faster than other distributions taking 1 minute average.September 25, 2022 at 2:21 pm #89742Member

::Dear gsm,
Isn’t this word gsm a bit French?
Try the 5.10.142 kernel prepared especially by anticapitalista for all the people who have problems with the 5.10 series.
If it doesn’t work, try the 5.18.00 kernel as well.
Give us news after your tests?Best regards,

::5.10.142 has the long boot delay with blinking cursor. Not other 5.10.x is available in the Package Installer.
4.9.0-326 is ok and i will stick for now with that one.September 27, 2022 at 12:17 pm #89842Membergsm

Test result:
Linux 5.18 for 64-bit PCs (signed) boots in 20 seconds and seems to run well, while writing this comment.
Linux kernel, version 4.9.0-279-antix.1-amd64-smp takes only 15 seconds!Regards

::I recall running into a “black-screen” issue like this on my Intel-integrated (Iron Lake) laptop back in the 5-10ish era and resolved it with the following boot parameter: i915.fastboot=0 Not sure it’s still needed, but have retained it (I’m on Liquorix 5-19 w/no issues)
Hope this helps!

gsmGiven that the 4.9 kernel boots quickly on your system I recommend using it.
On my new laptop I need 5.18 or 5.19 systems for it to work but on my older laptops I really like the 4.9 kernels; they’re lighter and fast.
