::hi skidoo,
your responses evoked a <chuckle>. I accept that trying to guess what is wrong AFTER things are restored to normal is more difficult than looking at what is wrong when it is wrong (as long as the system is functioning enough to analyze it).
If one selects herbsluftwm, are there keyboard combinations that do what a mouse normally does? I am wondering who uses a graphical interface without a mouse. Touchpads seem to be mouse equivalent; are touchscreen devices the target for herblustwm? (I am curious and will see what people say about how to use it, but thought I would mention it while I am replying to your comments.
Thanks.

P.S. Couldn’t find anything about herblustfwm <g>.

::Hi ile and skidoo,
Thanks for responses.
(I was actually making a “snarky” comment about the initial misspelling of the window manager (herblustfwm). Then my corrected spelling (herbsluftwm) was still incorrect <g> although the search engine did “recognize” it. My apologies.)

::Minimal is meant for troubleshooting. No wallpaper, no desktop-session startup, no window manager startup, no conky, etc. Normally this works and DOES have mouse support. I have used it a few times for testing things. As I said, it is meant to troubleshoot (a program in startup freezes the system, there is a problem with loading the desktop-icon handler, conky reports lots of errors that makes everything go slow… these king of situations can be troubleshooted from a mininima-<wm> session).
What you experience is probably related to xorg or the graphic driver trying to render a background when there is no background to render. Right-clicking the desktop to launch the wm menu leaves “ghost images” of the window manager. Maybe a better solution (if this freezing happens to more people) is to use a small monocolor image as background for minimal sessions instead of no background.
I would say that in this case you were unlucky and your system has problems with the minimal setups on your particular machine. For now it is better to not use them.
If others also start experiencing the same problems, I will hack the code a bit and send a merge request to the main git project for desktop-session-antix to use a backgrouns in minimal sessions.antiX Live system enthusiast.

::Hi Xecure and skidoo,
Amazing – insight (Xecure) and humor (skidoo) in the same thread.
Xecure, I appreciate the clarification about minimal – I may try it with my other systems and see if they also have problems.
