      Hello dear forum,

      today the start of the live mode of antix19-full- from the DVD đź“€ on my Thinkpad T41 unfortunately failed. Everything went well at first, but then a black screen. Since nothing worked, I pressed the power button briefly and received the report that the X-display stopped (see picture).

      The installation of the basic version works. I did that days ago.

      Do you have a solution, why is it that I cannot start the -full- version in the live mode?

      Have a nice evening 🌆
      Best regards
      biscuit

        Sometimes the kernel or the live system don’t identify the graphic card properly.

        Try this boot parameter in the boot menus:
        xorg=intel
        If that doesn’t work, try
        i915.modeset=1 xorg=intel

          .. well, booting the live version from DVD is okay at first, then the screen goes black. How can I enter the boot parameters at this point? or does this have to happen right at the beginning on the start page?
          The console can only be seen again when I press the power button. Certainly very simple, but I can’t get any further here.

            The parameters need to be entered on the boot line. Here is a pic from an older version showing where to enter the parameters Xecure gave

              I added “xorg=intel” as the boot parameter.
              Now I finally get this console entries (see picture), the live antix 19 is not yet visible. How can I see the live mode now?

                According to the specs I found it has ATI Radeon graphics

                  So i try „xorg=radeon“ as boot-parameter?

                    I don’t really know, but would guess try adding a space, then
                    xorg=radeon

                    to the boot option line instead of xorg=intel

                      If that doesn’t work, maybe try booting in Safe Mode.

                      Sorry, very late here, need to go to sleep. I hope one of those helps, if not, someone else will probably come and suggest.

                      If you can get to a command line, run inxi -Fxz and post the results if you can

                        I missed the ATI graphic card and only looked at the intel CPU. Thanks, BobC for finding out the correct graphic card.
                        When you boot in normal mode, and get to the black screen, het the key combination Control+Alt+F1, log in as demo (demo/demo), and run
                        inxi -Gxxx
                        We would like to know what kernel module and xorg driver the system is trying to load. It should be radeon, amdgpu or ati, but we would like to know which.

                        Using xorg=fbdev should force the use of fbdev generic driver (failsafe mode loads it too) when nothing else works, but it would be ideal to use the proper radeon video driver.

                          The specs said it is a Radeon 7500 in AGP mode. I have an old Pentium II with an AGP Radeon and it worked from DVD as well as installed, so maybe it’s a hardware recognition issue.

                            in the meantime the installation worked without my intervention. AntiX-full started in live mode 🙂 that was luck or coincidence. A restart of the live mode at a later point in time did not work again.
                            Attached is the screenshot from [inxi -Gxxx] …

                              Must be a hardware issue.

                              Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

                              antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

                                If normal boot works sometimes, select normal boot, go to tty1 (Control+Alt+F1), log-in as demo, and stop slim
                                sudo service slim stop
                                and restart it again
                                sudo service slim start

                                If the card is configured as you have shown in the inxi -Gxxx screenshot (it is already properly configured), then maybe the issue is with slim (the login manager). Restarting it will try t start a new xorg server. Hopefully this is an issue only in the live session, and not after installing.

                                I would check the integrity of the DVD, selecting one of the checkfs or checkmd5 options in the F4 boot menus. Sometimes this happens if the DVD or the ISO have some corrupted part.

                                  My suggestion, listen to the DVD drive when it boots. If you hear it retrying the same sectors multiple times, its likely either the DVD itself or the DVD Drive.

                                  Check the DVD for dirtiness, scratches or smudging, and try cleaning it gently if anything found.
                                  Try a DVD head cleaner to clean the optical part of the reader.
                                  Test the DVD as recommended by Xecure

                                  Did you look at dmesg? Maybe it says where the error is?

                                  If its an Xorg problem, then the video card might be flaky. Is the fan and ventilation working ok? Maybe its overheating the GPU?

                                  Personally, I’d try to not run it from DVD, as they are mechanical and problem prone especially after being used for 22 years.
