There are two translation data for Japanese localization, ja.tr and ja_JP.tr, and it seems that ja_JP.tr is preferentially used.
If ja_JP.tr is missing, ja.tr will be used (I actually tried that).Yes, that’s the way it is supposed to work.
To correct the Japanese localization of the Boot menu,
(1) Use only ja.tr.I consider this the proper solution. I don’t see any reason why the additional outdated jp_JP.tr file was kept all the time in the boot menu archives or folders of the ISOs. It was probably simply overlooked, and nobody before you had reported the issue all the years.
This will be fixed in antiX 23, as a consequence of your report. Many thanks again for focusing it. Your analysis confirmed what I had suspected about the changed string position in the .tr file causing the item mismatch in translation in boot menu.
Because there is ja in antix-development of transifex, but there is no ja_JP.
This is intentional, since ja should be the base file in the ISOs, and no additional ja_JP should be present.
While ja_JP is clearly redundant to ja, we can discuss whether one of these is needed:
Hiragana (ひらがな), Kanji (漢字 / 和製漢字) or Katakana (片仮名) ?
Do you think one of them should be added (and can be maintained by volunteer translators at transifex)?Many greetings

While ja_JP is clearly redundant to ja, we can discuss whether one of these is needed:
Japanese sentences are created by mixing Hiragana (ひらがな), Kanji (漢字 / 和製漢字) , Katakana (片仮名) , Romaji, etc.
For example, there is usually no Japanese sentence with only Hiragana (ひらがな).
If there is such a thing, it’s poetry or nursery rhyme lyrics.

Your Japanese reminds me of a man named Toshiki who used to travel between home in Japan to New Hampshire in the USA, working in collaboration on a commercial UNIX system.
Localization and Internationalization (L10N and I18N) were performed by engineering from many countries including Japan, China, Korea and many other countries. I worked closely with many wonderful Asian and European people and I value the same here.
In fact we’re expanding with Brazilian and several other people and places. Wonderful for people from all around the world to share and collaborate with good software!

When I searched on the web, I found one post on a Japanese bulletin board by a person named Toshiki who seems to be developing with System V. Posted in 1998.
I don’t know if that person is ‘Toshiki ‘ who you know.I don’t know what kind of English ‘Toshiki’ used.
I’ll be careful that my lame English doesn’t make everyone on the forum say ‘Don’t Bother Me’.Thanks.

Who knows if it’s the same person or not.
The Toshiki I knew worked with Digital UNIX, later rebranded as Tru64 UNIX before Hewlett Packard took over the reigns of Tandem Computer, Compaq Computer and Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC).
The original UNIX was developed on an old Digital computer in the PDP family.
Later AT&T started making computer systems and some computer companies were fearful of them, including Digital because they lost some of the business to AT&T and more to Sun Microsystems.When Microsoft started domination of the desktop and IBM already owned the corporate mainframe space, that left science and government, both of which were also pursued by the other companies and that’s what killed several of the midrange computer companies: Apollo, Data General, Wang, Digital and even Sun was acquired by Oracle, the database giant of the late 20th century.
Some of the products and innovation still exists, though it’s dwindling and it’s been mostly replaced by mobile and server stuff with strong network integration.

Oh, one other thing: when I would work with Toshiki often, I could understand him, though his words and attempt at speaking “English” sounded very different than most of the people in the office.
About two years later, I was working as a contractor and I returned to the company where I’d previously worked. One of my American friends who also worked in the group said that Toshiki was on assignment back for a few months, so I went to say Hi; I could understand him, but only barely.
When you are around people a while, you become familiar with accents, common words, etc. After a while, that gets forgotten.I’ll remember the fun and the sharing we all had in those days; it was much more rewarding than the actual work, even though I enjoy technology.
