        Netsurf: good idea.
I’ll check it out and see what is usable with this web browser.

On antiX21 netsurf should be in the repo and installable per synaptic or apt.

          Version 3.9-0.1~mx19+1

          sudo apt install netsurf

            Hello, andfree!

            > dpkg -i netsurf-gtk_3.10-1+b1_i386.deb

            need install netsurf-common first
            packages.debian.org/bullseye/netsurf-common
and after netsurf-common try install netsurf-gtk

            > dpkg -i netsurf-fb_3.10-1+b1_i386.deb

            need libvncserver1 and netsurf-common package before netsurf-fb
            packages.debian.org/bullseye/netsurf-common
            packages.debian.org/bullseye/libvncserver1

            PS:
Now in debian-based linux for install local package better use apt-get, for example
            instead of
            sudo dpkg -i netsurf-gtk_3.10-1+b1_i386.deb
            try
            sudo apt-get install ./netsurf-gtk_3.10-1+b1_i386.deb
            (with full package path)
            apt-get can solve dependence

              I found version 3.10 available.

Now, netsurf-gtk works and it seems very nice. The access to the antiX forum is direct.
I suppose that login to forum is not supported. I put username & password twice, but it asks for them again, as I had put them wrongly.
                Should I install netsurf-fb, too?

I was eventually able to get the credentials added. In my case I was successful by adding the credentials by logging in after selecting a topic and a reply, logging in there instead of from the main menu with netsurf.

We had a short 503 outage as I was posting the previous message. I waited 5-10 minutes, posted again and it worked.

We’re not completely finished fixing the outage issues but we have a procedure that is able to restart the service in approximately two minutes.

Let me know if the suggestion for netsurf is clear and if you are able to login using a reply thread to enter the credentials. Thanks!

netsurf-fb is the “framebuffer” version, which you would use if you weren’t working in a graphical X session with a window manager like Icewm or a desktop environment like xfce. It’s pretty cool to be able to use it like that in a tty. But no, you probably don’t need it unless you just want to have fun trying it out that way.

This worked for me, too. Thank you. I’m using netsurf to write this post, but not without problems. The text cursor is invisible (I’m using the mouse one instead), BBCode bar does not appear & the “QUOTE” link is not active (I copied the quote from Pale Moon for this post).
The “REPLY” & “EDIT” links work. The “Helpful” button doesn’t.
                        The text cursor sometimes appears.
Pressing both touchpad buttons at the same time (resembling with a middle mouse button) doesn’t work as an alternative for copy-paste.

The reason the quotes don’t work is because Netsurf can’t handle the antiX forum javascript properly. However, you can always do a quote reply here:
                          1. Find the # at the upper right corner of the post you are quoting from – for instance your post is #97226
                          2. start the quoted material with “[“quote quote=97226″]” (or whichever post # you pick)
                          3. paste the quoted words
                          4. end the quoted material with “[“/quote”]”
*** – remove the ” marks for this to work

You can even post with quotes from links2/xlinks2 here – with no javascript engine at all.

                              Great advice Andy.

The same is true of any other “markup” feature, as long as you know what the starting and ending tags are and what they do.

Conceptually they are similar to the way that html tags work, but in this case they are the tags used in our forum software, so they definitely are NOT identical to the html tags, simply similar in concept.

                                Hello,

Is chromium on i386 32bit really not secure anymore? This is just a question of clarification in these interesting thread following the discussion in the first page. Madibi and PPC stated that chromium on 32 bit was not secure anymore and not updated. Then the argument was made that google chrome and other browsers based on chromium were not an option anymore for 32 bit, but it is not entirely clear to me where we stand regarding the use of chromium itself, though user2022 placed a link to debian download pages for chromium where a fresh version could be obtained.

I still receive chromium updates when updating antiX through the updater on my 32 bit machine, currently running chromium 109.0.5414.74 (official build) built on debian 11.6, running on debian 11.6. Am I still in the clear regarding security updates for chromium?

Thank you all for the good work.

Am I still in the clear regarding security updates for chromium?

Just to make it clear – I think that the Chromium Dev team stopped supporting 32bits (by this I mean creating packages that allow chromium to be installed in 32bits systems). However I assume that the Debian Dev Team compiled the Chromium source code from scratch and created packages for 32 bits systems. If my assumption is correct, then those 32bits packages should be fairly up to date and secure to use (on any 32bits that is able to run those .deb packages, which I assume, it’s not all of them)

                                  P.
