Hi antixTeam,
I had tried the lightweight rox-file-browser but some file cannot be viewed like connected usb devices. Therefore, i tried another browser PCManFM-Qt file browser as most files could be viewed but its showed lagging somewhat loading for viewing took long waiting.I tried Void linux and Mx-linux21, browsing a USB android devices are smooth and fast despite some big files within that folder post no issue.
Any leads to resolve this ?

::Give us system information, mainly kernel. The kernel is what handles android device mounting. What kernels are you using in antiX/MX/Void?

::Hi AntixTeam,
1)Tried with Mx-linux21 wildflower uname -a 5.10.0-9-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 5.10.70-1(2021-09-30) x86_64 Gnu/Linux
status: smooth and fast browsing USB android device without issue.
2)Tried with void-linux uname -r 5.15.6_1 #1 SMP x86_64 Gnu/Linux
status: smooth and fast browsing USB android device without issue.
3) Tried with Trisquel 9.0.1 caja 1.20.2 uname -r 4.15.0-161-generic
status: smooth and fast browsing USB android device without issue.
4) Tried with Antix-21 uname -a Linux 5.10.57-antix.1-amd64-smp #1 SMP PREEMPT
status: browsing lagging need to wait if that directory has big files and light browser cannot shows connected devices.
However, await patiently it works! but took too long most of the time.
Any clues how to resolve the above issues?
Appreciates inputs;

::How big are the files? What version of android are you using on your phone? If I have anything similar I will try with the Debian kernel to compare the performance of folder browsing.

::Hi AntixTeam,
my android FuntouchOS vivo PD1901EF_EX_A6.12.12 , the download folder normally fills with some downloaded .iso each approximately 2.3 gb to 4.7gb iso), approximately one folder less than 25 gigs of files. I do it with other android devices regardless of its version, it work flawlessly with Mx-19.3, 19.4 and MX-21 as well as other distro like Void which all of them seemed no issues at all and browsing almost instant response.I even add gvfs packages like gvfs-backend, gvfs-mtp,gvfs following the synaptic package manager from model of Mx-21 but its still having the same issue. What exactly was missing? Perhaps, only developer’s level able to know why for I m just a casual basic new user, sigh !

::Thanks for taking the effort to help, yep I did that already. But curious, in Mx-Linux, Void linux distro , dun have to hit that button? Its auto mount in other distro and browsing is blazing smooth regardless the folder sizes.

::Advice, Be patient,
This forum is run by volunteers not slaves…
you have a niche device and while very helpful, those like xecure have to eat sleep work to earn money and have private life
and family to take care of.If you are unable to accept above advice you can also use a distro which better suits your personal needs.

::I have confirmed that it is slow, with both antiX and Debian’s 5.10 kernels. It seems to be related to the mounting procedure used in antiX, which isn’t as fast, but requires less dependencies to do the job.
Installing pcmanfm and gvfs
sudo apt install gvfs pcmanfm gvfs-backends
and then launching or the desktop-session or pcmanfm itself with dbus capabilities:
dbus-launch --sh-syntax --exit-with-session pcmanfm
You can then mount the device and have the same experience as MX, Void, etc.Advantage: it is much faster and you can browse faster because of the special cache methods that are being used.
Disadvantage: Requires installing 34 packages, and requires a special dbus session.So, in the antiX philosophy of doing more with less, you need to manually mount the Android device with the corresponding application in the menus, but the result is that it requires less resources, but is a bit slower to navigate (using less dependencies, less RAM, less cache, etc.).
Alternatively, you can also get the automatic mounting and selecting of devices (like in Void,MX, etc.) using gvfs and dbus, which makes it easier but bloats the system only for having a better experience. If your system is fast and you are not restricted by resources, then you can prepare your system to work with gvfs and some other file manager (like pcmanfm in the example above), which will probably make things faster and easier for you. But if you are restricted by your resources, the the slow but less resource-demanding method already set in antiX is what you will need.
If you want to make permanent the pcmanfm method, for you or anyone else interested reading this, add to the desktop-session startup:
dbus-launch --exit-with-x11 pcmanfm -d &
and pcmanfm will prompt to mount all devices when connected, even Android devices.
The problem is that some devices that require special privileges, if you are not using a policykit method in antiX; it will not mount (use the other file manager to mount them or install and add to startup a policykit method, like policykit-1-gnome or lxpolkit).antiX Live system enthusiast.

::GoodWork Xecure,
1) Appreciates your kind,swift responses.
2) pcmanfm was installed by default when I installed antix-21 ,am i right? so using synaptic package manager only select “gvfs and gvfs-backends”
3) Secondly,when you mention:then launching or the desktop-session or pcmanfm itself with dbus capabilities: dbus-launch –sh-syntax –exit-with-session pcmanfm
Did you meant put “dbus-launch –sh-syntax –exit-with-session pcmanfm” into ~/.desktop-session is a directory, so in desktop-default-conf or desktop-session.conf? OR should it be in /home/$user/.desktop-session/desktop-default-conf or desktop-session.conf?*New attempts tried up for above 1 & 3 , edited the either ~/.desktop-session/desktop-session.conf or /home/$user/desktop-session.conf
>> boot up, then login shows pcmanfm but mouse cursor missing until toggle setting at android phone’s “File” selected intermittent toggle to/fro brought back the mouse but screen freezed only pcmanfm no other tabs panel available. Until the pcmanfm is closed using TAB selection “close window” then the panel comes back normal with a mouse. ?What had happen?4) To confirm a permanent pcmanfm method, did you meant add “dbus-launch –exit-with-x11 pcmanfm -d & ” to the ~/.desktop-session/which.conf?or the /home/user/.desktop-session/which.conf?
* Didnt try 4) as 1 & 3 already stuck.
* No-Matter what, the Android-Device-USB-connect must be selected once for the handshake folder to connect, otherwise all attempt failed. Hm?
5) By using synaptic package manager, I do browsing shows poliykit-1 was installed.
6) Without adding dbus-launch –sh-syntax –exit-with-session pcmanfm , leaving as it, i discover one must tab on Andriod-Device-USB-connect tap once to have the usb device be connected,then using pcmanfm to browse the folder. There is improving in speed with gvfs-backends installed being observed but still taking a couple of seconds slower : A blue bar processing progress shown up.
any suggestion?
Best regards,

::X ecure thanks for the very useful help. Once I understand how to setup entirely will pass on your work to others.
Mounting phones is pretty much essential for most users, I just tried mine on MX21, both automounted as MTP device without issue.
They are bothersome on antiX. Thinking from a new user point of view as Newmant informs a far better user experience than the present setup.
Easy to understand too, no searching for how to do it.
Lynch me if you like but I have to ask: Would it be feasible/practicle in the longer term to have a possibility for the user to easily switch
from the present lightweight setup to automountingas in MX. And still keeping a major inclusion of system D components at bay Maybe something
along the lines of wifiswitch one click approach would be wonderful.- This reply was modified 1 year, 4 months ago by ModdIt.

::@newmant1 –
2- as far as I know pcmanfm is not included out of the box in antiX 21 ( but it’s fork of a fork, zzzfm is)
3- Xecure probabbly meant the config file, not the directory
4 -” To confirm a permanent pcmanfm method, did you meant add “dbus-launch –exit-with-x11 pcmanfm -d & ” to the ~/.desktop-session/which.conf?or the /home/user/.desktop-session/which.conf?”
I don’t get your doubt: “~/.desktop-session/which.conf” just means /home/[your_user_name]/.desktop-session/which.conf”P.
