      Hello!
I built the basic Hello world program in C on Geany just to try it out and lo and behold. Nothing. While I run the same program via terminal, it runs fine. I’ve attached the screenshot.
(On the top-left there is the source code open in Geany. On the bottom-left there is output screen obtained by hitting the ‘run’ button on Geany. And, in the right half is the output obtained by building and running the program in terminal.)

I’ve also attached the screenshot of Geany’s build commands.

How could I run programs from Geany?
      Thank you!

Check the permissions of the files produced by geany.
Perhaps you must chmod the files manually as root.

Actually, I tried the same script and it works on my machine out-of-the-box.
I run the Build command and it produces a exectutable file in the same directory.
I can run it in the MidnightCommander with no problems.

I tested the script in the internal virtual terminal, too.
And it runs on my machine without problems with the default commands you are using.

So I guess it is a matter of the preferences or the way you are looking at the potput.

          https://www.geany.org/manual/current/index.html#terminal-vte-preferences

          1. set the option “Execute programs in the VTE”
          2. set the “Message Windows” option
          3. at the bottom you should see the Message Windows
          4. scrool to the Terminal

Now you should see the output there. It works for me without any changes in the biuld command options
