Can I install Opera Browser in antiX?
I try to install Opera Browser from official deb here
When I run GUI gdebi to install it say that some packages will be removed. Can it brake or harm system or it is safe to install Opera?March 27, 2020 at 5:30 am #33883Moderator

::If the installation from the webside will remove some packages it sure will harm the system.
The safe and easy way to install browsers like opera in antiX is open
control-centre > system > package installer
and look for browsers.

::Ok,
control-centre > system > package installer
, but there is no Opera there.
Opera need to remove – ceni, eudev, gnome-bluetooth, libeudev-dev, libeudev1, midisport-firmware and will install – bluez, libudev1, udev.
Is it safe to remove this packages, what I will lose with them?
Or if it’s not safe or even break whole system, is there a way to safely install Opera?
I read this How-to install applications.
There is no official Appimage of Opera, Flatpak don’t have it, there is no .run version of Opera.March 27, 2020 at 9:04 am #33900Memberzeh

It’s there, under ‘Browsers’.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

::Are you using antiX-19?
Yes, I’m using latest version 19.1
I try live-cd mode, where system is untouched, and there is no Opera in package installer as well.

In Synaptic there is Opera repository, but it’s not enabled by default. I try to enable it and got GPG error.

After I donesudo apt install –reinstall packageinstaller-pkglist
Opera appear in package installer, and some new browsers 🙂

How I can check what additional packages will be installed with Opera?- This reply was modified 3 years, 1 month ago by p-and.

::It installs opera browser and the keyring. Have a look in:
/usr/share/packageinstaller-pkglist/opera-*.pm

::Thank you. I successfully install Opera 🙂
And I have relative question – how I can install not the most recent Opera version?
Not the 67 but 60 or 59.March 28, 2020 at 12:49 pm #33970Member

::Download .deb package and install it with Gdebi? And there is no other way?
Because as I wrote beforeOpera need to remove – ceni, eudev, gnome-bluetooth, libeudev-dev, libeudev1, midisport-firmware and will install – bluez, libudev1, udev.
It’s not possible to install previous version?

::It seems that gdebi is becoming more and more selective and does not want to solve the problem with eudev instead of udev.
It is possible to install one of the older browsers with the terminal, go to the direction where opera was downloaded, open a terminal and install with the dpkg-command, like
sudo dpkg -i opera-stable_60.0.3255.95_amd64.debMarch 28, 2020 at 3:31 pm #33977Member

I just came by to report the same findings. Using that command instead of gdebi worked for me without unintalling anything.
Remember to download the opera-stable version.Regards
