Hi, New to Antix, not to Linux.
I’m testing Antix 21 in virtual box, and my intention is to “fix” an old acer laptop (2GB) with it.The issue I’m having is I cant figure out how to get more resolution than the stated 1024.
I don’t think it is because it is running in a virtual machine, because I also tried Antix 19 at one point, and remember it had lots of screen resolution choices.
Anyway, this all I see from control center > sessions (screen shot).
IS there a terminal way to set it to say 1500×800 for example?
Or should I just go back to version 19 as it is supported for quite awhile yet ?

I’m testing Antix 21 in virtual box, and my intention is to “fix” an old acer laptop (2GB) with it.
Unfortunately, I don’t have computers that allow me to run virtual box, but from what I’ve read in some threads on this forum, antiX behaves differently in virtual box when compared to a real machine.
The issue I’m having is I cant figure out how to get more resolution than the stated 1024.
I recommend you to post the output of the command $ inxi -Fxz in the terminal, other people will certainly be able to help you.

Infelizmente, eu não tenho computadores que me permitam executar o virtual box, mas segundo o que eu li em alguns tópicos deste fórum, o antiX se comporta de maneira diferente no virtual box quando comparado a uma máquina real.

::Since you want to install (possibly) on the old acer laptop, why not try a live boot on it and see if it picks up the correct resolution.
Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.
antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

::I don’t think it is because it is running in a virtual machine
You can’t really be certain about that. Different antiX versions (like 21 and 19) can behave differently when virtualized…
IS there a terminal way to set it to say 1500×800 for example?
Possibly, yes… In the terminal, run this command:
xrandrThat will list the current screen resolution(s) and also every available resolution.
If the screen resolution you want is available and appears in the list then you can run
xrandr --output [name_of_the_display] --mode [screen_resolution]You can search for xrandr here on the forum, or read this link: https://www.linuxfordevices.com/tutorials/linux/change-screen-resolution
As I always say, use search engines first, then ask here in the forum. I literally found that link by searching “change resolution Linux” on duckduckgo in less than 30 seconds.
Using search engines is instant, you don’t have to wait for someone to answer you… It’s faster for you, and less work for folks here in the forum… You seem to be more than an inexperienced Linux user – you know enough to run a virtualized system, enough to know how to use a GUI to change the screen resolution- since you are running a virtualized system you can test any command you find on-line, without any risk to your installed system! Don’t be afraid to try new things that way! It’s the best way to learn about any system (including antiX)A Tip:
If you want to try antiX on a device, try it live on that device (via USB pendrive or dvd)- it’s the best way to avaliate how antiX will feel like, once installedEDIT: anticapitalista answered faster than me, it seems we agree on the fact that the best way to test antiX on a device is… testing antiX on a device (running it live)

Yes, well it seems my assumption about that was wrong, as was much else that I though.
21, and 19 do act differently when running in a VM.I do apologize for wasting your time , I “should” have done more work myself. I use the excuse that I thought (also wrongly) there may be something simple I was just missing. Antix does have a lot of software packages.
I also should have though to just boot it to bare metal, and of course it does work as expected when having done so. On a different machine than the acer I mentioned though, which I believe is ready for recycling. And I do appreciate your very good, and detailed reply.
Thanks.
(not sure if I got the quoting correct here, (it’s different than what I’m used to) we’ll see after Submit)
