      Hello.

I can’t seem to get Gnome to work on my machine (I’m using VMWare). I followed this guide (https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/installing-gnome-on-antix/), but I couldn’t find gnome on the login screen, and even when I checked to change the desktop to gnome, it just brought me back to iceworm. Help would be much appreciated.

      I’m new to Linux btw.

If you wish to work in a full gnome environment you will be better off with a distro built to work that way.

The post you quoted is misleading gnome is not an included desktop in antiX.

To install full gnome compliant you would have to rebuild the distro starting with the init and probably end up with
an unusable mess, actualy many consider systemD and gnome an unusable mess which is why several nosystemD distros are
        growing in popularity.

You want to go ahead anyway, you will need to help yourself and will probably not have fun. But learn a lot.

Since antiX does not come with Gnome you would need to “install” the Gnome package using apt or Synaptic. Once it is installed you can switch to it either from the opening login screen using the F1 key to cycle through the choices or use the Desktop menu and choose one of the “Other Desktops” from within the default IceWM desktop. After you install Gnome it should be on that list.

FWIW, the default Debian install is using Gnome. But antiX is meant to be used with Window Managers instead of those memory hungry Desktop Environments like Gnome. But like any good Linux distro, you can make antiX do just about anything you want. Just remember that the devs and the forum will not offer too much help with Gnome, or any other DE beyond the four environments it comes with OOTB.
