Hey folks, I’ve been tryin’ to instal AntiX on my EEE PC 701 for a while, – all to no avail. First, I tried the current release, which didn’t work cus it needed more space than the laptop’s SSD (4 GB) could offer. So I tried to instal on a 16 GB SD card. However, every time I’d insert the card, the installation program would freeze, though the card was perfectly operational, and formatted to ext2. Same for AntiX 19. I then tried Antix 17, which could fit on a 4 GB SD card (detected all right), but wouldn’t get the display resolution right (it’s 800×480, while the installer only had 640×480). Also, when I’d run the installer, no disks would be available for selection even though both the SSD and the SD card were detected by GParted. I’d be grateful for any input.

If you carefully read another thread currently running:

        https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/antix-on-asus-eee-pc/

You will know how to install antiX 21 on your 4GB drive.

Sorry, but I didn’t quite understand how to do it natively from that thread. I don’t want live mode. Besides, I’d like to instal on a 16 GB SD card, but the installer freezes upon its insertion.

the installer freezes upon its insertion.

Does it work if you insert the SD card prior to starting the installer?

In addition to question by christophe:
Having completed installation on the SD card, do you intend to boot the so installed system from that card when such SD card is inserted in the SD card reader on the laptop?
Most SD card readers are Ricoh controller which is not bootable. If you have not verified you can actually boot from SD slot, I would test it.
If it happens it is not bootable then USB attached card reader is needed to boot from such SD card.

In that case you can try to install “plopkexec” that lets you boot also from that card reader. For my level of knowledge it is a bit complicate, but in a couple of days I could set it up working. At the end of the tale it worked on an ASUS laptop for roughly 2 years 🙂

                  https://www.plop.at/en/plopkexec/full.html

                  good luck
