Hi!
I have a problem to install antix 64bit on all my computers (so it’s not a problem of only one computer). The antiX installation proceeds fine until 95% when grub installation begins. But the the installation stops at that point (it says that grub cannot be installed).
It happens only with antiX 64bit installation, I have no problems with AntiX 32bit.August 8, 2020 at 3:21 am #39977Member

::Did you update/upgrade before installing?
Are you refering to antiX 19.2 x64 (normal or special with 4.19 kernel)?
Is your system UEFI or Legacy BIOS?
What GRUB option did you choose?
Do you have a boot partition, EFI partition or do you install grub on MBR?I want you to understand that it is impossible to help you if you don’t give us enough details. Imagine I go into a motorcycle forum and say I cannot install the engine but I don’t explain anything about my motorbike model, motor or what have I tried and the steps I have followed to install the motor. No-one will even try to help me because I haven’t given any of the important information.

::A. First try updating the live system before installing (everything that updates/upgrades before installation will be included in the installed system). I know there was a grub2 update recently to fix some vulnerability (that broke my boot, but that is another story), so maybe it is recommended to have everything up to date before installing antiX to your system.
B. If it still doesn’t work, you can also install without grub and then use Control Centre > Maintenance > Boot repair to try to install grub again (from the live system).
Some others have had this experience in the past (and had to do the previous B. workaround) but we never got enough data to find the possible bug and fix it, as it only happens with some systems (I have never experienced this myself).
Please try upgrading the system if you have internet access before installing and/or use the Boot Repair option to install grub after installing (without grub).
Hope this helps.

::I first followed advice A., (live updated first), but the problem was the same (installation stops at grub installation at 95%). Then I followed advice B. and the installation was succesfull (100%). Then I went to “Boot instal” inside the Control center, but Grub obviously wasn’t installed. Because when I reboot the computers it appears terminal (grub>). Then I proceed with the commands “linux”, “initrd” and “boot” but when I come to login display, I can’t insert username and password because the keyboard doesn’t work.

::Well I guess you checked the md5sum of the 64-bit download, because if it happens on any hardware it’s very strange. Or try another usb-stick. In any case, you should follow the advice to do an update/upgrade before installation, especially the installer should be up to date.

Go back to live CD/USB and do:
Control Centre > Maintenance > Boot Repair > Repair GRUB configuration file. Follow the steps and it will fix grub.antiX Live system enthusiast.

::Now it works! Thank you!
I have another question. When in the installation process at the end (at 95% Grub installation) stops the process (grub installation notification error), then antiX is succesfully installed or not? Because the process didn’t arrive to 100 %.
To me it works everything fine, but I just wanted to ask to be sure if everything is ok with installation or not.August 8, 2020 at 7:08 am #39993Member

I don’t think so. You could have seen it in the antiX installer. If you upgrade before installing, the new version of antiX installer has a tab that prints out what is the current step of the installation and you will be able to see what it says when an error pops up (like your 95% completion case). Now it doesn’t matter, because:
Then I followed advice B. and the installation was succesfull (100%).
So your installation was successful. You only needed to install grub and repair the grub file, that you already did, and your system is fully installed now.
Hopefully in the future we can gather enough info to report the bug properly to the dev team.

::No, no! Later I downloaded the full antiX version (not base as before) and I made again the installation and the installation came only until 95% (not 100%). So what must I do now to complete the installation? Because the OS now works fine with no problems.

::Based on the log from the antiX installer (newest version):

All entries after the “Installing GRUB” seem to be related to grub installation, updating grub/initramfs, unmounting mountpoints, cleanup and maybe some checking of installed files.
All installation of files, creation of user and system configuration seem to be before this step, so it should work properly.I am no expert, but it seems to be safe. If you haven’t already, reinstall grub and repair it from the Control Centre to be sure that grub works correctly.
Maybe one of the devs involved with the creation of the installer can shed some light and give you assurance, but I would give you thumbs up to your system being working and complete.
