        @Nolan

        When I get back home I’ll get this fixed give me a day or so

          For those who have VLC already installed and do not wish it to be removed and keep their system as up-to-date as possible given the circumstances, you can ‘hold’ the ‘vlc’ package.
          1) sudo apt-mark hold vlc
          2) Then run the usual update-upgrade commands; all updates not related to (or blocked by the hold on) ‘vlc’ will be performed.
          3) Remove the hold (not to forget about it).
          sudo apt-mark unhold vlc

          Of course, you can postpone the step no. 3) until the situation is resolved (but I guess I would forget about it).

            If an upgrade brings in dependency problems that block the install of a particular program with several packages, you could specify the installation of an old version that works and then follow sybok’s suggestion to keep it working.

            In the case of VLC, this involves a lot of specified package installs, so IF YOU AREN’T DESPERATE, it might be better to wait for the fixed versions to come to the repos.

            You find the version you want by using

            apt list <package name>

            You install the version you want with

            sudo apt install <package name 1>=<version> <package name 2>=<version> etc

            Good to first run a simulated install by using “-s” after the apt install command. This looks like

            sudo apt install -s <package name>=<version>

                  Confirmed! VLC works fine now. 🙂
