      Hello Friends!

      Control Center -> Preferred Applications

      in the Web Browser drop down, I am unable to choose a browser. It’s current value/entry looks something like this: –p

      Same with Image Viewer drop down.

      Did I mess up my system? Fixable?

      Thank you for your time!

          Which version of antiX do you have, and what browser do you have installed that isn’t appearing?

          I wonder if you deinstalled the default applications?

          PS: Here is the list of Categories entries the system looks for in the .desktop files. Each must be followed be followed by a semicolon “;” to be completely valid

          # Categories = Values in .desktop files used to select. Any entries including NoDefault will be excluded
          # Terminal – TerminalEmulator
          # Web Browser – WebBrowser
          # File Manager – FileManager
          # Email Client – Email
          # Text Editor – TextEditor
          # Image Viewer – GraphicsViewer (must include mime type image/jpeg)
          # Video Player – VideoPlayer
          # Audio Player – AudioPlayer

            Kernel: 5.10.57-antix.1-amd64-smp
            arch: x86_64
            bits: 64
            Desktop: IceWM v: 3.2.3
            Distro: antiX-21_x64-full Grup Yorum 31 October 2021

            The browser that I want to make default is Vivaldi.

            There is no Vivaldi desktop file in /home/user/.local/share/applications

            The desktop file is in /usr/share/applications

            I opened the desktop file with Leafpad and saw this:

            Categories=Network;WebBrowser;

            so I don’t know what the problem is.

              Put the /usr/share/applications/vivaldi.desktop file into a .zip file and post it here, please.

              Based on what you told me, you could run this from a terminal:

              ls -l /usr/share/applications/vivaldi*.desktop
              ls -l ~/.local/share/desktop-defaults
              rm -f ~/.local/share/desktop-defaults/web-browser.desktop
              ln -s ~/.local/share/desktop-defaults/web-browser.desktop /usr/share/applications/vivaldi-stable.desktop
              ls -l ~/.local/share/desktop-defaults

              PS: that will change your default to that vivaldi-stable.desktop, but I don’t think that will make it appear on the list if it wasn’t already.

                  I fixed my code above so it matches the filename you sent. I also had to fix it to remove the old link (assuming it was there) before creating the new link.

                  Try the code above again. Post the text from the terminal screen. It should fix your web browser problem.

                    The problem actually lies web-browser.desktop file. The one that came with fresh install of anti x. It has improper file permission. Deleting that file and regenerating it again as BobC told should resolve the problem.
