      Hello Friends!

I used to be able to open as root my preferred file manager, spacefm, by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Space and typing ‘gksu spacefm’

Now I get this message instead.

Failed to run spacefm as user root.

Unable to copy the user's Xauthorization file.

I must have messed up my system.

      Any way to fix this?

I can still open spacefm as root by typing in the terminal: sudo spacefm

      Thank you!

        1. Open a terminal (it should open in your home directory)
        2. Do:
        touch .Xauthority
        This should fix it.

It did not. I still get the same error.

I don’t know if this is related, but when I execute celluloid in terminal, I get

** (io.github.celluloid_player.Celluloid:9281): ERROR **: 22:34:38.702: Failed to open temporary input config file
          Trace/breakpoint trap

That’s the last line among several lines of message. I can’t copy everything here because I get this message in the web browser:

A potentially unsafe operation has been detected in your request to this site

Your access to this service has been limited. (HTTP response code 403)

Maybe I should just do a fresh os install.

I suspect .Xauthority has been deleted somehow in your home folder. Check to see if you still have it there.

            If you run
            gksudo spacefm
            does it work?

If it does, you will have a new .Xauthority file in your home folder, but it will be owned by root. To have your user own it, you have to:
            sudo chown username:username ~/.Xauthority
where user is the name of your user. If you user is kaye, it would look like:
            sudo chown kaye:kaye ~/.Xauthority

              gksudo spacefm

              does not work. Same error.

              /home/kaye/.Xauthority

              is still there.

              I executed this:

              sudo chown kaye:kaye ~/.Xauthority

              Still the same error message.

It looks like a lot of things are affected. If I open a libreoffice-calc .ods file, I get this:

The lock file could not be created for exclusive access by LibreOffice, due to missing permission to create a lock file on that file location or lack of free disk space.

Maybe it would be easier to just re-install everything.

I don’t think I logged in to desktop as root. I don’t know how to do so.

I found out I also cannot create files nor folders anywhere:

                        Cannot create temporary directory

                        that’s a popup message.

I’m wondering is this had anything to do with my installation of some epson apps, like this one

                        iscan-bundle-1.0.4.x64.deb.tar.gz

It encountered some errors during the installation process but I was able to use the scanner anyway, so I thought nothing of it.

Also, I’m now switched to Space-JWM desktop, and I’m not seeing any Space-IceWM. Is this normal? I’ve always used Space-IceWM in antiX.

Is this a core or net install? You are missing lots of directories, files from that ls -la output

kaye probably only copied the last section in terminal.

I think anticapitalista’s suspicions may be right.
When using sudo spacefm do/did you move files/folders or execute programs inside your home folder? It is very likely that many things have changed permissions.
                            Try this in terminal:
                            find $HOME ! -user $USER -type f
It will take some time for the command to execute if there are a lot of files in your home folder. Be patient. If the command stops without any output, report back. If something does come out, paste the result here.

So I decided to just re-install the operating system. I haven’t done anything significant except install seamonkey browser, edited /etc/fstab, and added my own theme to /usr/share/icewm/themes

Yet when I tried to install libreoffice-base in Synaptic….please see attached file.
