::The message from Menu Manager is trying to indicate an inadmissible character is included in the name to display in the Personal Section of the main menu.
When creating the menu item in Menu Manager, what is the precise name shown in the field “The name to display in the personal menu”? Does it show a character which might be causing the problem? It might be helpful to post a screen shot of that window.

::Had to blow up the attachment to get your meaning
Looks almost self explantory to me. I’d rename the app to alrighty_then and see what happens.

::But. I hope you know re-naming apps screws up Desktop entries and scripts that include that app in their text file.

Just saying.there are a couple of things that mitigate that issue with the personal menu.
1. the menu manager makes a second desktop file in the user’s home folder, rather than overwriting existing desktop files.
2. the text causing the issue is only in the name that is displayed in the menu, not the executable line itself.

::I apologize for not clarifying the issue, I was trying to add tor browser to the personal menu,
I only typed in the name “Tor Browser” with no quotes of course, no dice, same error came up no matter what I put in the
name area, my only conclusion is something in the executable file is the culprit.append any launch parameters e.g. template name, web site address.

::yeah, maybe. there are a lot of special characters in there. plus I’m not 100% sure they will do anything with the variable names for “dirname” and such anyway.
you could conceivably put a complicated launch command into a script file, make the script executable, and use Menu Manager to add the script to the menu rather than the long command itself. I sometimes run into something similar with MX Package Installer’s pm files.

::Pointers for the future.
From your screenshot, torerror2.png,..
It seems you are trying to run a command in a terminal. At the foot of the screenshot there is a box “Tick to run in a terminal” which should be used on such occasions and there should be no need to start with sh -c.
The field “Append any launch parameters…”
The entry is also checked for inadmissible characters, so as mentioned by dolphin_oracle, it is causing problems and should be transferred to an executable script which is nominated in this field.May 22, 2018 at 11:46 am #10434Member

::@ SamK,
Ok, I was using the EXEC= information from the start-tor-browser.desktop, since these are .desktop files that are being created, I incorrectly assumed that
I could simply copy & paste that entry to the “launch parameter entry box” and it would work.
After looking at the code I realized that perhaps the error message should include not only the “name entry” but the “launch parameter entry” as well.cheers,
