Hi
I am trying to setup a static ip address on eth0. Done it many times before on other Linux flavours. Should be easy. I have made all the needed changes on the CLI in/etc/network/interfaces.
Ceni reads/writes these settings. OK but when Ceni tries to bring up the network, I get error messages:ifup:failed to bring up eth0 W: up eth0 failed due to error at /usr/sbin/ceni line 1516.I have never used ceni before so I have never seen that error before.
I have connected directly to another computer, also with a static ip (that works).
arp -a shows the expected ip.I can ping the other PC (Rasp Pi) on the expected ip.
When I run
ip addr
on the AntiLinux pc, the local eth0 ip is 169.254.211.186/16 so it looks like DHCP allocated.I searched the Internet and found this post: https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/cant-use-static-ip-vmware/
so I am not the only one who has hit this problem.I added the line:
eth0=eth0
to
/run/network/ifstate
and rebooted.Looking at
/run/network/ifstate
now, it only contains
lo=lo
The ip is now 169.254.229.23/16, another DHCP address.Any help much appreciated.

::Hi
After trying a few things that didn’t work, I tried:
ip link set eth0 down
and then
`ip link set eth0 up’and when I looked at the network settings, the static address was there.
When I looked in/run/network/ifstate
eth0=eth0
was no longer there again.Need to do some more testing before I call this solved.

::I think there is a utility in the control centre under the network tab to switch the network management utility from conman to ceni. If I recall correctly this will need to be run (or conman removed) to prevent conman from managing the connections and allow you to directly edit the /etc/network/interfaces file or use ceni to do so. I am not 100% certain on the name at the moment but I believe it is named for switching wifi. This may be a little confusing when indeed it switches between the different network management utilities; not just for wifi.

::Hi
My use case is for the eeePC to provide a head to local and remote headless Raspberry Pi’s via network connections. I am not a Linux expert but I am accustomed to configuring Linux with the CLI. AntiLinux is new to me and it looks like I need to turn off some of the default AntiLinux control centre utilities to avoid interference.dazz

::Hi dazz, there is an older post line in the forum regarding fixed IP.
Best way is, as Dave recommended switch to Ceni, then remove conmann
which will otherwise overwrite settings you have made.Please do note conmann is useful to many users.
It is a multi tool and needs multiple settings to tame.
Conmann provides as standard NTP DHCP and internet connectivity.
And pings MS server inascessently to check connection is up.

::Hi
I just need to climb the learning curve to get a better understanding of AntiLinux.
I now have a static ip that survives a reboot, so I am making some progress.dazz

::Hi dazz,
keep calm, dont worry, search and try and help yourself, if you get stuck ask for help
explaining what you have done and what you need help with.antiX is to me like a large cellar full of tools.
Take a look in /usr/local/bin which is one place the gems wait to be mined by those who are
prepared to learn, give and take ideas and experiences. Help others where possible.Its in a way like archers community and arch but mostly with more patience shown. Debian Based
and no poetterings all pervading madness. -
