Hi! As the creator of the GUI script antiX uses to mount android devices, let me just say some things that may be relevant:

1- As anticapitalista suggested- antiX is light because it uses Window Managers (like IceWM, Fluxbox, JWM) and not full blown Desktop Environments. This means that lots of stuff people comming from DE are used to (like automounting android devices)- is not implemented in antiX to save resources. I have only one laptop running antiX 21 (and it’s a 32bits machine, with a 1GB of RAM) but I don’t recall trying to access my android devices from there. On my desktops, (all antiX 19) almost on daily basis, I connect my android phone to transfer files, and it’s simply flawless (I tested with an android 6, android 9, android 10 and android 4.4). The script is not always running on the background, so you have to click it to run it and try to mount your device- it’s not as user friendly as using a D.E., but it gets the job done, and never failed me- Bob’s steps should work fine… and for now I have no way to debug what error you get (you simply say the script does not work)
2- There have been some reports that my script fails in antiX 21- I’ll have to try to check out why…- it may be some problem with the dependencies it uses)
3- The suggested script (my Moddit) seems ok, but I have not tested it- I’ll try to test both my script and Moddit’s on my antiX 21 machine and get back to you on that
4- Please report exactly what’s the error you get when you try to run Moddit’s script- just “it doesn’t work” does not help us help you… We need details…

      EDIT:
You are right- the forum software seems to have messed up Moddit’s script- please do the following: copy Moddit’s script and past it in a text editor. The replace all quatation marks with ” and paste the script on the terminal- it should work fine- it does here, in antiX 19…

      P.

My wife had an old Android 4.4 phone. It didn’t have any card in it. I got it charged enough to boot, but when I did the pulldown and went to Notifications and tried to click USB mode, it would just flash a blank screen and do nothing.

        Try this.
Get the tablet open and running
Connect the USB cable firmly (make sure its a DATA cable, not just a Charging cable)
On the PC run the Android Device USB Connect menu option. If you get an error box like the first picture, unplug the cable, wait 10 seconds, plug it back in, and with luck the USB connection methods screen like in the third picture will come up on the tablet. On the tablet click Media Device (MTP), then the back arrow to the main screen. Now go to the PC and click Retry, and with luck, a file manager window will open on the PC like in the second picture.

          Thanks @BobC: !

I don’t usually perform these operations, but I’m thankful that you have this down! Thank you for your method to overcome the conditions in which Android devices aren’t recognized; your explanation is clear.

            Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all the responses. I finally got the device mounted by pasting the script directly into a terminal. The device is Android 4.1. I have an Android 4.4, and it mounts no problems using the “Antix Device USB Connect” menu item. I could not get my 4.1 device to mount with “Antix Device USB Connect” no matter what I tried, but the script mounted it right away. So there has to be some difference between the script and the menu item.

            Thanks again!

            Sincerely,
            Lars.

Please note, android version IS NOT the issue, implimentation by the OEM or
              System Integrator is.
My non goog honor (they are definitely not honorable) phone is android 9 other
user owned devices go back to earliest days, 2.2 is a working fossil.

It has become more difficult to work with any android device as goog and its
masters (US agencys) has tightened the grip on OEM.

So there has to be some difference between the script and the menu item

              Bright conclusion,
the menu item is a starter for a helper script, the scripts, that is the one included with antiX which
works with most android devices and background helper applications differ.

on antiX as it is designed to be you can easily make a starter using the menu tool from control center.
Use personal menu show item. Have fun,
