      I’m using antiX 19.2.1 base i386 on a old netbook (1.6GHz CPU, 1GB Ram).

      When running live (From USB pen drive) I get the option on the main menu to go:

      Desktop -> other Desktop -> <large list>

      Anything I pick from that list works fine and it just switches. On the installed copy I get very different menu options:

      Right click -> Window Managers -> <list of three>

      FluxBox
      Herbstluftwm
      IceWM

      Only the first one works and if I pick either of the latter two it switches momentarily before dropping out of X to the command line login prompt before then switching to the X command prompt.

      I’ve performed an apt-get update on the system but no change. Does the Live ISO include all the Full options but only install a smaller base subset?

      I’m keen to switch to IceWM to be able to see my battery status.

        Run this command to fix the available window manager capabilities.

        sudo apt install --reinstall desktop-session-antix

        (This has come up a few times in the forum previously, I believe that there is an improvement in the 19.2.1 system packaging that includes running this tool when the menu is set up or modified).

          Thanks for your advice, I reinstalled “ desktop-session-antix” but sadly it did not fix the problem.

          I then realised I’d mapped an old home directory for the user account. I suspect it had incompatible config files, so created a new user account from fresh and it works perfectly.

          sudo adduser <name>

          Then logged out and back in.

          I’ll copy the files I want across in due course.

            Hi NarfBoy,
            Welcome to Antixia from Moddits. Kids and old ModderMan.
            Had to grin about reusing home, the little old config dragons bit me before too.

            1.6GHz CPU, 1GB Ram, tight on RAM like my eep C, choose your browser carefully. If you want to use firefox take out
            all the crap = turn it back in to a browser instead of a toy ad delivery machine.. Do switch on UFW firewall, you
            also can find a one click Adblock setup for hosts file in the settings menu, highly recommended to keep system load
            down.

            Give Icwm a bit of time, get used to it, customise, it can grow in to your desktop your way and still stay fast and light.
            It is way more powerful than the first impression suggests.
