      Good day.
      I have fresh install on VMWARE. Net card is bridged. Antix get ip from router by DHCP, but i want use static IP manualy.
      Before run ceni

      $ ip a
      1: lo: <LOOPBACK,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN group default qlen 1
          link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
          inet 127.0.0.1/8 scope host lo
             valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
          inet6 ::1/128 scope host
             valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
      2: eth0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,DYNAMIC,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast state UP group default qlen 1000
          link/ether 00:0c:29:c6:ee:1e brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
          inet 192.168.200.90/24 brd 192.168.200.255 scope global eth0
             valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
          inet6 fe80::20c:29ff:fec6:ee1e/64 scope link
             valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever

      Then run
      sudo ceni
      configure IP, GW, DNS and apply settings and get error

      ifup: configuring interface eth0=eth0 (inet)
      /bin/run-parts --exit-on-error --verbose /etc/network/if-pre-up.d
      run-parts: executing /etc/network/if-pre-up.d/wireless-tools
      run-parts: executing /etc/network/if-pre-up.d/wpasupplicant
      /sbin/ip addr add 192.168.200.9/255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.200.255 	  dev eth0 label eth0
      /sbin/ip link set dev eth0 up
       /sbin/ip route add default via 192.168.200.1 dev eth0 onlink
      RTNETLINK answers: File exists

      Press Enter key to continue ...
      $ ip a
      1: lo: <LOOPBACK,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN group default qlen 1
          link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
          inet 127.0.0.1/8 scope host lo
             valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
          inet6 ::1/128 scope host
             valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
      2: eth0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,DYNAMIC,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast state UP group default qlen 1000
          link/ether 00:0c:29:c6:ee:1e brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
          inet 192.168.200.90/24 brd 192.168.200.255 scope global eth0
             valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
          inet 192.168.200.9/24 brd 192.168.200.255 scope global secondary eth0
             valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
          inet6 fe80::20c:29ff:fec6:ee1e/64 scope link
             valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever

      but if i reboot, then antix have IP by DHCP, not static.
      If i turn off “connman” on booting, then dont work DNS.
      How use static IP without troubles?
      Than you.

        Hi,

        I had this same issue it appears to be because ifup and ifdown can;t run because the nic isn’t listed in /run/network/ifstate

        in my case tdoing sudo cat /run/network/ifstate
        showed:

        lo=lo
        I used nano to add:
        eth0=eth0
        and alls good , internet searches seem to suggest this is is because if up may not have been used to bring the interface up.
