Today’s upgrade bunch includes upgrade to smbclient, which although is not included in antiX 21 baseline infrastructure it is a part of smbmap script, developed by PPC and installed as part of FT10 bundle.
Unfortunately today’s upgrade of smbclient forces also installation of libelogind0, which is against an established already antiX strategy.
Although I am not using FT10 as the entire caboodle, I have smbclient installed as part of antiX 21 runit *elogind*-free. So my question would be in relation to today’s upgrade:
Will smbclient be made *elogind*-free eventually and it is advisable to wait or those following *elogind*-free antiX architecture should drop using smbclient?
To emphasize what I mentioned above, antiX 21 is not impacted by today’s upgrade, just smbmap script, which is currently included in FT10 as arbitrary part of bundle…

        I have already been de-elogind-ing samba-libs.
Just wait until the new version hits the repos.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

Looks like your redesign has been completed and it is in the repos as of today. I have tested as much as I could and *elogind*-free SMB networking seems to work fine.

Again, thanks very much for your work in the spirit of *elogind*-free antiX.
Strangely, smbclient did not depend on libelogind0 until the most recent update. If more software infrastructure moves in such wrong direction it might become increasingly more difficult to keep up with this virus…

It appears the problem resurfaced in today’s updates. Today’s smbclient update again requires libelogind0 installation… Not urgent to update samba kaboodle though, it is a very minor update but hopefully it will be resolved eventually…
Thanks for continued support of *elogind*-free architecture of antiX 21 and antiX 22…

It appears today’s update entails installation of the infamous libelogind0, which is a notorious enemy of *elogind*-free antiX 21 and also antiX 22, which is around the corner…
I could not clearly determine which of today’s packages causes libelogind0 to be installed…

It’s probably dbus. nosystemd/elogind versions are waiting in the repos.

I would need to remove applications as well as a long list of other stuff. elogind is installed on my main system.

try sudo apt -s purge elogind to see what it would do.

                    kid3, kmahjongg, kcolorchooser, ffmpegthumbs

I don’t think any of them are critical, but it looks like anything KDE is impacted, and if I recall ffmpegthumbs is used to put create the icons in my file manager.

Try to install anything KDE related and you pull in a whole host of dependencies. I was thinking of giving KDE connect a try..

                      sudo apt install kdeconnect
                      Reading package lists… Done
                      Building dependency tree
                      Reading state information… Done
The following additional packages will be installed:

I marked and applied all upgrades in Synaptic, today.
At that time, libelogind0 (246.10-3.0-antix1) was installed, also libelogind0:386 (246.10-3.0-antix1)

I reviewed the other items that were installed or updated, today. None of them (including dbus) show libelongind0 as a dependency.

However, according to Synaptic, libelogind0 replaces libsystemd0 and Breaks libelogind0 (!=246.10-3.0-antix1).

So, what does this mean? Is it a problem that requires remedy?

                        Thanks.

For those using antiX-21 with elogind (as it was shipped on the iso), there is nothing to worry about.
                          Nothing will break.

When the new antiX elogind/systemd – free version of dbus appears in the repos, nothing to worry about if using elogind.
This new dbus from antiX makes it possible to not have elogind, but seatd replacement (or nothing) instead. This will be the antiX-22 default.

Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.
